1985 Legend We're Changin' Every Day! Robert E. Lee High School 411 ESE Loop 323 Tyler, Texas Volume 27 Opening —

The times change and we change with them.” Lot hair I RIGHT: There's no time for soci.il hello's with six minutes between chisses for Sonya Barnes and l.ametra Williams. TAR RIGHT Greg Miller rushes to class — an everyday occurrence for most students BHI.OW RIGHT Tutorial period provides extra study time for those wishing to attend BOTTOM: Students make use of the temporary walkways over the mud We're changin' every day! That seemed like a rather appropriate phrase with which to describe the 1984-85 school year. There were many changes taking place around us: clothes styles were changing (of course); cars were becoming more aerodynamic; and even the city of Tyler was growing (with about eight new office buildings and shopping centers). Also taking our lives by storm were the computers, which were becoming more complex each day. Television shows of a few years ago, such as The Waltons, transform with time to the ranks of Dallas and Dynasty. We are definitely in the center of a maelstrom of change! Yet students at Lee were not immune to other forms of change. Primarily, the most obvious changes we and other students across the state of Texas experienced were those brought by House Bill 72. It gouged its mark in the public school system as quickly and destructively as Sherman's march on the South during the Civil War. The Bill's regulations required the student to maintain a C- average or above to participate in extracurricular activities. Also Senior final exemptions were abolished. Establishing a tutorial period was a requirement of the school reform bill. Beginning at 7:45 A.M., the period allowed students to receive extra help from teachers. This requirement, in turn, brought back the four lunch periods and six minutes passing time between most classes. Opening
