I When the truth was faced, we. the students, discovered that Robert E. Lee had something with which no other school could com- pare. Our Pride that has grown through generations would live on because our students made great strides toward academic ex- cellence and enthusiastic support of school activities. From joining an interest club or service club to trying out for Brig. band, sports, or academic teams, there had been wide ranging opportunities for achievement. Robert E. Lee benefited from the strength it derived from the rich heritage of the past. Many prominent and important people, such as doctors, lawyers, chem- ists. engineers, and executives, had their high school years at Lee. Looking back with a sense of pnde and respect, many of these graduates have expressed appre- ciation for the excellent educa- tion they received. Less we forget, many fine ath letes including high school and college All Amencans received their early training and exper lence here at Lee and then went on to fame and fortune In sports, business, and the professions. Pnde and tradition have always inspired our athletes to greatness. Championship performances have propelled Robert E. Lee to the state champion level in sever al sports. Lee's teams were rated twentieth in the state in all time football wins. The school, itself, appeared as old, but highly respected. Service dubs have kept the Me- monal Garden emaculate by weeding and replanting flowers. Our excellent teaching staff was one of the highest paid in the state. Our rivals noticed Sterling's average scores on the SAT and the ACT tests were higher than Lee's. However, left unmen- tioned was the fact that individual scores at Lee were exceedingly higher than those at Sterling. In the final analysis Robert E. Lee proved through sports, aca- demics, organizations and just our history of outstanding achievers that we had something to be proud of. Once this fact was realized by the student body, ev- eryone let their pride shine. Seniors «how their pnde end spirt at the Lee-Sterting pep rally by holding up a banner. Kathryn Wright. I Selling drugs? . Someone stabbed in the hall? ... Knife fights? Reality at Robert E. Lee? No! We all know these not to be true, but false statements and ru- mors that have accumulated throughout the past year. Our ri- vals said we weren't good enough for their set standards ... They said we were a poor school with no money for new cars like Porshes. Fiero6. or many other expensive cars. Because of our minonty percentages, we should have had other students bussed to Lee High School. They said our overall scores on major tests, such as SAT and the S «n Hull and April Spsnglsr draw their weapons In rago a! a rally ACT. were lower than other schools. They said we had too much violence in our halls. Stab- bmgs . . Fights . .. Obcemties Angela Taylor, a student from Lee. was startled by the question. Are there really stab- bings in Lee's halls?. thus prov- ing rumore had started, and peo- ple were listening. Even though false accusations were being started about our school. Robert E. Lee still upheld our pride and tradition. We stood up for our school, and our blood ran deep maroon. We jokingly took on the Showing a typical noi in school, Ktvin Dubois. Finding it amusing, not true, but amusing, we fought to show that Lee was not as good and even better than these who called us such names as Ghetto Ganders. Robert E. Lee stood up to make our feelings known. You can't get a good school down. was a rebuttle from us. We proved that many times over. Gander Pride was still flying high. and during Lee-Sterimg week our pride shined. Although we lost the football game, we won the pride and tradition part.
