Lee Fighting Ganders, traveling to Port Arthur, met the Number 3 team in the state and were in the game until two last- quarter touchdowns spelled defeat. Texas City caught the Ganders sleeping the next week, winning with two 80-yard touchdowns. The Ganders came to life aqainst the big La Marque team for their first win of the season. After putting up a great battle against the 3rd- ranked Brazosport Exporters, the Ganders saw a 14-14 tie shattered by three Exporter touchdowns in the 4th quarter. The following week, Ball High found the Ganders cold as Ball won 14-0. The Ganders started Zone play with a strong win of 27-6 over Sam Rayburn. The offense came to life the next week with a 34-20 win over Deer Park, but Pasadena proved too strong as the Eagles flew to two last-half touchdowns breaking open a 7-6 score. Still in the district race, the Ganders traveled to South Houston, but hopes for an upset ended in a 21-0 loss. More than 12.000 fans packed Memorial Stadium at Homecoming to see the Ganders trounce Sterling 28-7. The Rangers scored first, but once the Ganders started rolling, they never looked back. The Ganders were plagued by the flu as they entered zone play with a slow start, but they remained in contention for the zone crown until the last game by winning five of their last six zone games— chiefly relying on a platoon system of two teams.
