f- SUPERINTENDENT You have had a long train of experiences in school. Now you deserve recognition as the Class of 1942. Apparently these experiences have proved as variable and beautiful as the colors of a gorgeous sunrise viewed from a lofty peak. You have had the privilege of many years, probably all your school years, in our school system, bringing the blessings of delightful association, sharing joys and perhaps sorrow, too, and a school career made safe by the continuation of a free democracy. Having inherited this fundamental assurance for a happy life at school you have followed your bents and aims under sumpathetic leadership. What a privilege thus to travel along learning's path- way and then to have the companionship in a most friendly sort of way with the Seniors of l942: Just as long as a single copy of this yearbook remains somewhere in circulation the results of your efforts will continue to pay dividends and thus proclaim how efficiently you responded to your opportunity to reflect school life at Robert E. Lee High School

SPARKS DEAN OF GIRLS vlce-PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL Now, more than ever before, it is up to those of high school age to understand and appreciate this precious thing we call democracy. They must accept its responsibilities as well as enjoy its privileges. Not only must they give their time and moneyg but, above all, they must give themselves. This may mean joining some branch of governmental service, but, in most cases, I believe that it means remaining in school in order to be prepared to serve to the fullest when the call comes. Knowing young Americans as I do, I have an abiding faith that there will always be an America worthy of our deepest devotion. f? .
