L- KIZIGF- THE SCHUOL BUARD The maintenance of our American principles and traditions, the very life ol' our democratic institutions and of our great republic depend upon the physical, mental. moral and spiritual equipment of our youth today. The function ol' education is not merely to store in the student's mind certain facts considered necessary to earn a decent living when he grows up, and to get along with his fellow man, but it should also definitely foster patriotism, build keener minds and nurture nobler spirits to the end that our schools will turn out thinkers with the wisdom and strength ot' charac- ter to choose the good rather than the had, and have the courage at all times to stand up for what is true and noble and combat evil. The above constitutes a real challenge to every adult in America, a challenge which, if we loye our country, we dare not ignore. Parents, lead- ers and teachers should sincerely cooperate along these lines and consecrate Y themselves to the accomplishment of this end. 177'

Lee High School during the Session of 1939-40. Through the coming years, this book will recall experiences dear to those who have spent this school session on the Robert E. Lee Campus. As the years pass, these experiences will become fond memories and this record priceless, because fre- quently during a pupil's high school days friendships are formed which last through life. Certainly it is my sincere wish that every member of the student body over whlch I have general supervision may always remember their school experlences Wlth pleasure. M 397 CYD!! any- 79-pax!!
