The aim of the language courses is to promote and create world understanding among countries. The courses in French, German, and Spanish are given for two years with two credits given when both years are completed. T0 round out the program there are three language clubs, Le Cercle Francais, Der Deutsch Verein, and Espanol, the major activities of which are: Mardi Gras, German Week, and eating at a Spanish restaurant, respectively. Both the students and the teachers feel that language is an important study because the world is steadily growing smaller. I , ' 3 12PM . w! WW 5:: Out Home Economics Department con- sists of four rooms, each of which has its own purpose and facilities. First, we have a classroom for writing and lecturing. Sec- ondly, one of the basic parts of the depart- ment is the kitchen which consists of seven units. A sewing laboratory with nine ma- chines is the third room in this department. Finally, there is a small room which is for the purpose of interior decorating. We are very fortunate to have a wide variety of courses offered to us in this field. These courses include sewing, co'oking, good grooming, etiquette, food preservation, child care, family and marriage, and interior dec- orating and are taught by Miss Hughes and Miss Sundal. l6 Our Industrial Arts Department offers many courses of which the following are included: machine shop, woodshop, basic electricity, basic metals, architectural drawing, and machine drawing. All the equipment in these shops is new and of the latest design. Mr. Hanson, Mr. Lehner, Mr. Riccelli, and Mr. Wivell are the instructors of the various parts of this department. To prepare students for future jobs, there are many opportunities that can be found in our Industrial Arts Program. Miss Sundal, Miss Hughes

Walking into Mr. Kvamis art classes, one finds many artistic students at work creating works of beauty consisting of advertising illus- trations in commercial art to jewelry making in basic art. Four hundred students participate in this program of musical development from freshman choir on up to select choir which performs at school and at music festivals. Mr. Adams, Mr. Mendenhall Marching in a parade for President Eisen- hower and playing for school games are two of many activities which the band under the leadership of Mr. Mendenhall participates in during the busy year.
