We are about to reach the goal, Graduation, for which we have labored for four years. As classmates, we have experienced the same disappointments and pleasures. Now, as the moment of separation approaches, our minds experience the same triumphs and regrets. How can we forget the countless memories which will be ours forever—memories of school rooms like Room 203, the study hall where blank walls looked down on everything from studious scholars to noisy club meetings and detention periods, all of which touched, in some way, the lives of all of us. Inspired by these memories, we go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear, confident that on the firm foundation we have built during our high school years, that we shall achieve even greater success in years to come. •Vi J. 4?! iff mm llisgKt 11 DEANNA ELLIOTT Secretary k I J| JOHN STEENERSON President The Senior Class ABRAHAM, LAWRENCE . . . DUANE 40 MOMENTS TO REMEMBER A ring on the finger is worth two on the phone. ... Our Classes The principal object of any school is to teach, and at Robbinsdale the wide variety of courses which were open to us gave all students opportunities to learn. The text books we studied, the paper we used, the pencils we wore out; yes. even the quiet typewriters whose idle keys stand as silent monuments to the busy hands which worked them so hard are part of those valuable moments of time we spent in our classes. The sophomores and juniors, whose faces appear on the pages following, still have their memories to mold, and just how good a mold they cast will depend on just how well they make use of each hour of every day in the wonderful years that lie before them. Our Activities Classes didn’t take up all our time at RHS. To round out and complete our “school life” there was just about every type of club or organization imaginable which took into membership students of varied interests and abilities. We spent many happy hours doing things we enjoyed doing, belonging to organizations to which we enjoyed belonging—never stopping to realize that while we enjoyed ourselves we were learning the great lesson of how to get along with people. We learned not only to follow but also to lead— lessons which are not taught in books. As we leave, some of the most lasting memories we will take with us will be those of the many activities in which we all had a part. Row 1: N. Lindblom, P. Fjerstad. J. Barclay, P. Featherstone, K. FOOTBALL Once again the Robins of Robbinsdale High proved to be a powerhouse in the Conference. Only once in the entire season did the purple and gold taste of defeat as several foes fell under the rush of the Robins’ wings. Highlighting the season were many standout performances as the Robins, co-captained by John Bies and John Sleenerson. rolled up an impressive record. After the opening victory over Heights, the War- riors from Hopkins were next to fall to the tune of 7 to 6; Richfield was welcomed into the league by a 33 to 0 tromping while Mound’s Mohawks were scalped by a lopsided 42 to 0. Homecoming found St. Louis Park on the short end of a 30 to 14 score, while Wayzata and Minnetonka were overcome in true Robin style. The heartbreaking loss to Edina served as the only blot on the record of a wonderful team. ’55-’56 Co-Captains J. Steenerson, J. Bies. Center: M. Suplick. Row 1: J. Dallin. J. Steenerson. R. CROSS COUNTRY Cross country, in its third year at RHS, enjoyed a very successful season this year. A fall sport at Robbinsdale, the cross country team ran in meets with other conference schools, in district competition and also in the state meet. TRACK Hard work, diligent training, and fine spirit are some of the reasons that Robbinsdale comes up with a winning track team year in and year out. WRESTLING A surprisingly young team, the 1954-55 edition of John Grygelko’s “rasslin Robins” finished the season with a fine record of eight wins and two losses to place second behind Mound in a very tough league race. Captain R. Klick. the team's only senior and an inspiring leader, finished fourth in the state meet at Mankato climaxing an unbeaten season. Jim Kelley, a junior this year, captured the highest honors in the state by winning first place in the 133-pound class. W. Trunnell, W. McClain, and J. Hughes were the other three Robins who also advanced to the state meet this year. QUIVERS Under the leadership of Miss V. Skartvedt. the boys and girls of the “Quivers” participated in an indoor N.S.W.A. Interscholastic Contest in the fall arid various local and novelty contests in the spring. All contests were good experience and fun for all. 89 A Squad— Row 1: D. Kramer, Mr. Larsen. P. Gorman, J. Donicht, B. Strom, how 2: K. McKay, Mgr.. W. Cavanagh, K- J°hl‘ son, J. Steenerson, R. BASKETBALL The basketball fortunes of Robbinsdale High had their bright spots and their dark ones in 1955-56. The Robins started the season by winning six of their first seven games, but could only muster two wins in the next eleven. The Robins were unbeaten in four non-conference games, but found the Lake League a bit tougher in winning four out of fourteen contests. Nevertheless, there were many wonderful memories here, too. The starting five, including the captain and fabulous scorer, Pat Gorman, did exceptionally well in downing Wayzata once, Tonka once, and Richfield twice. The last game of the season proved that the courage of our Robins was not to be scorned, for the league leading, Hopkin’s Warriors, barely sneaked away with a one-point win. Because this year's team was principally seniors, Coach Bob Larsen, also this year’s athletic director, will have a big job for next year. Under Arnie Henjum’s careful coaching of the ’56 “B” squad. Coach Larsen will have fine material to work with. B Squad— Row 1: J. Wheeler, G. Johnson, Mr. Henjunt, D. Weld, J. 'Fuel, T. Leckler. Row 2: D. Tab, J. Tetrud, J. Ejjj . Gordon, J. Worel. Row 3: J. Pat set several new conference scoring records as he wound up the entire season with a total of 490 points. He was chosen by his teammates to receive the Most Valuable Player Award of RHS. Captained by I ee Ward anti Dennis Munson, the Robin skaters wound up the season with a 3-0 win over Richfield. Dick Steeves led the Robins with 16 goals and four assists. Coach Root now looks forward to a year of rebuilding as only four Robins will return to the rinks next year. BASEBALL The national pastime is a growing sport at Rob-hinsdale. with a building program second to none. This year's baseball team is led by co-captains Bill Davis and Jerry Dallin.
