BASEBALL NEWS -- FALL, 1957 'S' Sept. 4-Poseyville lost the opening game to Wadesville by a score of 5-2 at Kiwanis Sept. Sept. Sept. Sept. Sept. Sept Sept. Sept Field, Wednesday, Sept. 4. Leading hitters for Poseyville were Wilkinson and Rutledge and for Wadesville, Deal and Wade. The winning pitcher was Paul Wade, the losing pitcher Tom Fletchall. 10--Poseyville dropped the Crossville Tigers in the second game of the season. The Posies edged Crossville in a tight contest 3-2 at Crossville. Highlights were team defensive plays when in the bottom of the fifth, with no outs and the bases loaded, the Tigers fell with the fast-moving plays of the Poseyville players on a triple play. Hitting honors went to Fletchall and Schutz, with Cottrell winning his first game. -Poseyville won their third game from New Harmony by a score of 11-1 as the Posies pounded out 7 hits against New Harmony's 2. Fletchall was the winning pitcher and Cooper the losing pitcher. 18-Poseyville clamped down on Cynthiana, 13-1. The locals had their third straight win, after losing their first game, by defeating the Annas with hits by Fletchall, Murphy, Cottrell, and Crawford. Cottrell was the win- ning pitcher and Cooper the losing pitcher. 19-The Posies played the Wadesville Red Devils to a tie game at Wadesville. Both teams encountered pitching problems as bats swung freely for both sides. The final score was 9-9. 20-Poseyville defeated Mt. Olympus, 6-0, at Kiwanis Field as Don Zenthoefer posted his first shut-out allowing only 4 hits. Blasting out big hits for the Posies were Wilkinson, Rutledge, and Schutz with other hits by Fletch- all, Price and Crawford. -Again the Posies' bats were on the rampage when the Posies downed the Griffin Tornadoes, 15-1, at Kiwanis Field. Our boys posted their fifth straight win. Leading the batting spree were Wilkinson and Cottrell. -Poseyville traveled to New Harmony to down the Rappites 10-4, using pitchers Cottrell and Zenthoefer. The Rappites collected 2 hits and 4 runs. Leading the offensive attack for the Posies were Wilkinson, Rutledge and Zenthoefer with home runs by Wilkinson and Rutledge. The losing pitcher was Jerry Cooper. 30--The Posies defeated the Cynthiana Annas, 9-2, ending their season with a seven-game winning streak under the no-hit pitching of Tom Fletchall. The Annas took a first-inning 2-0 lead by virtue of three errors and a walk 5 however, the locals bounced back with 6 runs in the top of the second with hits by Price and Crumbacher. A home run was hit by Schutz with two on ase.
