BASEBALL NEWS - SPRING, 1957 'E' Mar. 29-The Ifoseyville Posies opened their spring baseball season by defeating Apr. 10 Apr. 11 Apr. 12 Cynthlana, 14-0. The locals collected 8 hits against the Annas' 1 Leading hitters were D. Rutledge, Dave Saxe, J. Rutledge, and Jim Hammelman, who pounded out a home run with one on base. -The Posies blasted Haubstadt by a score of 10-0. Don Kries won his first game of the season against Walker. D. Rutledge, Saxe, Schutz, Cottrell, and Stroud collected 9 hits against Haubstadt's none. -Owensville came to Poseyville, only to be defeated by a score of 10-0 Owensville collected 2 hits to the Posies' 6 contributed by Saxe and Fletchall, with extra base hits being recorded by Zenthoefer and Schutz. The winning pitcher was Fletchall, the losing pitcher Overton. Poseyville continued to travel the winning trail by defeating the Princeton Tigers in a close game, 4-3, there. The Posies scored 4 runs on 4 hits Princeton 3 runs on 2 hits. Saxe, Schutz, Cottrell and Zenthoefer collected the four Posies' hits. D. Kries was credited with the Win, Cloin the loss. Apr. 15-Poseyville lost their-.first game of the season, 7-5, in a thriller to Wades Apr. 23- Apr. 25 ville. The Red Devils scored 7 runs on 6 hits, the Posies 6 runs on 8 hitsl Schutz, Zenthoefer, and Cottrell collected 6 of the 8 hits for the Posies. The winning pitcher was Paul Wade, the losing pitcher Cottrell. The Posies, fired up over their close loss to Wadesville, overpowered Owensville for the second time of the season as they pounded out 12 hits against Owensville's 5. Kries did an extremely fine job of pitching, striking out fourteen opposing hitters, while the power of the Posies' bats gave him the needed runs to record a win. The final score was 15-0. D. Rutledge collected 4 hits with additional hits by Schutz, Fletchall, Stroud, and Zenthoefer. Barney was the losing pitcher. -Ploseygville downed Elberfeld at their own field by a score of 8-0 as again t . , . . . e osies bats were in action. They collected 8 hits to Elberfeld's 1. Zenthoefer got 2 hits with other hits by Fletchall Stroud and Saxe. Fletchall was the winning pitcher, Harris the loser. ' '
