Jan. Jan. 11 Dec. 7 BASKETBALL NEWS 'W lContinuedl -Allendale Defeats Poseyville Our second loss of the season came at the hands of an out-of-state team from Allendale, Illinois. Big Norman Gehr and his veteran team had their hands full during the first half as our boys were tremendous. How- ever, experience won out and Poseyville was defeated 65-52. Gehr led all scoring with 33. Rutledge, Schutz, and Fletchall accounted for our offensive with 13 points, 11 points, and 10 points respectively. Dec. 13-Poseyville Trips Wadesville The Posies bounced back from their previous loss to Allendale to trip the Red Devils of Wadesville at the latter's gym 74-70. The game was marred by excessive fouls and turned out to be a foul-shooting contest. Over fifty personal fouls were called. The big offensive drive for our team came through the combined efforts of Schutz with 18 points, Fletchall with 18 points, Gates with 16 points, and Wilkinson with' 13 points. Dec. 14-Poseyville Wins Second Consecutive Night The Posies downed the Chandler Panthers in a home game to post their second win in as many nights by a 54-46 score. A first-half lead proved to be the victory margin for Poseyville despite rallies and extended scoring spurts by both teams during the second half. Key offensive men for Poseyville were Gates with 17 points, Rutledge with 10 points, Cottrell with 10 points, and Schutz with 10 points. Dec. 20-Griffin Wins Out Over Posies Griffin's Tornadoes best the Posies at Griffin by a 59-46 margin. Our boys had a bad first quarter which spelled the difference between victory and defeat. At all other stages of the game we played the Tornadoes on even terms. Fletchall and Cottrell led the scoring with 11 and 14 points respectively. 3-Mt. Vernon Edges Out Posies ' The Mt. Vernon Wildcats barely edged out the Posies in a very closely con- tested game. A few missed foul shots were the difference in the final out- come. Mr. Willis took over in the absence of our coach, Mr. Miller. High scoring honors went to Fletchall with 20 points, Gates with 13 points, and Cottrell with 11 points. -Hornets Drop Poseyville The Elberfeld Hornets, with a classy veteran squad, defeated the Posies 77-66 at the Elberfeld gym. At this game the Posies really felt the pangs of slumpitis. Cottrell and Fletchall were the only men to find the basket as they scored with 21 and 16 points respectively.

BASKETBALL NEWS 'is' Nov. 1-Poseyville Wins Over Mountaineers Nov. 8- The Posies stopped the veteran Mountaineers of Mt. Olympus in a very close game by a two point margin 53-51. A smooth pass-off from Cottrell to Schutz accounted for the winning basket and a well-earned team victory. Offensive honors went to Fletchall with 17 points, and Schutz with 14. Rutledge, Cottrell, Gates, and Wilkinson were outstanding in the defensive department. New Harmony Defeats Poseyville The New Harmony Rappites grabbed an early 42-15 first-half lead over Poseyville in the initial road game for our team. However, our boys came back in the second half cutting a 29 point deficit to ten at the final out- come. New Harmony 62-Poseyville 52. Offensive thrusts were led by Schutz with 17 points and Rutledge with 14. Nov. 15-Poseyville Beats Newburgh Nov. 22- Nov. 29 Poseyville nipped the Newburgh Wildcats 57-55 at Poseyville Gym on a pair of foul shots by Rodger Cottrell with four seconds to play. Again the Posies came from behind to win. Three of our starting five fouled out. The offensive attack was led by Fletchall with 14 points, Cottrell 12, and Rutledge 11. Zenthoefer and Wilkinson led the team offensive and de- fensive pattern of play. Elites Downed by Poseyville Our team traveled to Haubstadt and defeated the Elites 52-49. Poseyville led from the opening whistle. A second-half rally by Haubstadt fell short as Poseyville had ample power to stop the Elites. Cottrell and Fletchall led the scoring attack with 20 and 10 points respectively. -Poseyville Squeezes Past Patoka 66-65 Patoka at Patoka is Tough to Beat was the old adage which was finally disproved as our boys outfought and outscored the Patoka Wrens 66-65 in a hard-fought, high-scoring game that was aired by WRAY, Princeton. A real team effort was the difference from start to finish. The game was a Real, old-fashioned shooting match. Rutledge had 20 points and Fletchall 21. Cottrell, Schutz, and Gates performed most capably to give us a fine team win. Dec. 6-Cynthiana Blasted by Poseyville Cynthiana became our fifth victim of the season as they went down to our team by a 67-39 score. After a close first half, Poseyville fired in a 41- point second half. Team scoring balance was evidenced by Fletchall with 11 points, Gates with 22 points, Rutledge with 6 points, Cottrell with 10 points, Wilkinson with 8 points, and Schutz with 8 points.

Jan. 17 Jan. 24 Jan. 31- BASKETBALL NEWS 'Y fContinuedD -Red Devils Beat Poseyville 4 The Wadesville Red Devils came out on top in the first game of the County Tourney to defeat the Posies 62-57. They eventually moved on to cop the Tourney. Our boys were on-and-off stride throughout the game. -Wadesville 68, Poseyville 54 The hot shooting Red Devils of Wadesville continued their shooting pace as they banged out a 68-54 win over our boys for our fifth consecutive defeat. Only Cottrell could find the hoop for a 20-point effort. All other players were unable to reach the double figures. Poseyville Outscores Cynthiana A high-scoring Poseyville unit recovered from slumpitis as they out- scored the Annas of Cynthiana 84-75 and set a new team scoring reco1'd for our school. Schutz, Gates, Cottrell, Rutledge, and Price hit at a good clip. Cottrell led the way with a 30-point effort. Feb. 1--Poseyville Stops Owensville Feb. 7 Feb. 14 Feb. 21 Poseyville traveled to the home of the Owensville Kickapoos on Saturday night and defeated the Kickapoos to avenge a last season 43-42 loss. The 61-48 win proved to be one of the finest offensive and defensive team ef- forts by our team throughout the entire season. Good scoring balance found Fletchall with 15 points, Cottrell with 15 points, Rutledge with 10 points, Gates with 10 points, Schutz with 6 points, and Zenthoefer with 4 points. -Poseyville Edges Elites The Haubstadt Elites were the third victim of the Posies as the Posies won 62-59. Good team-scoring balance found Schutz, Gates, and Rutledge leading the way with additional scoring coming from Zenthoefer, Wilkinson, and Fletchall. New Harmony at Poseyville Poseyville defeated the New Harmony Rappites in a close game as the Posies came from behind to win by a margin of 62-57. Leading the Posies were Fletchall with 19 points, Cottrell with 8 points, and Price with 8 points. -Griffin Takes Second From Poseyville Griffin gets by the Posies in a close game as they came from behind to close the ten-point margin at half time. The Tornadoes went ahead to win aided by the red-hot shooting of Embrey, who accounted for 32 points, defeating the Posies 58-54. The Posies offensive men were Wilkinson, Fletchall, Gates, and Zenthoefer, with Cottrell and Schutz scoring 15 and 13 points respectively.
