JAY VEE As March went out the Roanoke Rapids Jayvee baseball team started their trek into the baseball season. They started with a win over Kinston, but they lost their second game to Weldon, They won their next three games against Weldon, Wilson shut the Baby Jackets out in their tirst game but in the second game the Junior Jackets upset them. BASEBALL towards the last part of the season. Early in the baseball season the Yellow Jackets enjoyed a winning streak with five wins and two losses. Oxford, Henderson, Greenville, Elizabeth City, and Jacksonville fell before the Yellow Jackets, but Wilson and Kinston outslugged the team. Then Roanoke Rapids hit a losing streak, losing to New Bern, Jacksonville, Washington, Kinston, Greenville. Next the Yellow Jackets won over Elizabeth City and lost their last game to New Bern. BASEBALL Superb pitching, airtight fielding, and the ability to win the close games were the reasons for the Jayvees great success. Their hust- ling was a main factor tor a good scoring record for them. Coach Garrison molded a fine sqdad from the boys who tried out for the baseball team that year.
