The Yellow Jackets opened their season with Oxford, The game was very close during the first half but in the second half Roanoke Rapids pulled away from Oxford with excellent rebounding. The final score was 57 to 45 in the Jackets' favor. The next game was against Oxford again, and the Jackets got an early lead and held it. The score was 48 to 38. The Jackets played their third game in Wilson. lt was close during the first half but Roanoke Rapids pulled ahead in the second. The game ended with a score of 55 to 50 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. ln the first conference game, which was against Jacksonville, the first half was close but in the second half the Cardinals went ahead and stayed there to win with a score of 54 to 46. The Yellow Jackets played their fifth game with Weldon. The Jackets got an early lead and held it. The whole team played a great game and was hitting from all over the court. The Jackets won 52 to 42. The second game Roanoke Rapids played with Weldon was a hard-fought game. lt was nip and tuck all the way, with both Weldon and Roanoke Rapids boys hitting well. With a slim lead our defense held them and the game ended with the Yellow Jackets 43 and the Tornadoes 42. The Jackets had an easy time in the game against Seaboard. The Roanoke Rapids defense kept Seaboard from scoring many points. The Yellow Jacket offense clicked perfectly and the game ended 64 to 29 in the Jackets' favor. The second conference game was with Kinston. At the beginning the game was close but as the game progressed the Jackets gradually pulled ahead and with good defense and frequent points the Jackets won 62 to 53. In this game against Washington another good defensive showing was made. The Yellow Jackets forwards and guards hit from the floor and our boys captured the rebounds regularly under both baskets. The game ended with the score 53 to 49 in favor of the Jackets. The Jackets dropped their fourth conference game against Greenville. The score was 52 to 43. The next game was with Elizabeth City and Roanoke Rapids was ready for this one. The Yellow Jackets were sparked-up and got an early lead and kept it for the remainder of the game. Roanoke Rapids won 60 to 46. ln the game with New Bern, the Bears were hitting from all over the court. The Jackets fought hard but could not stop
