OUR FIGHTING IRISH IV 'xlg Coach Vince Shedwell Practice makes perfect and our fighting Irish soon learned that this was true and proved it with results. With Coaches Vince Shedwell and Ray Lucas to lead them, the team practiced hard and had a fine season to show for it. Backed by the Athletic Association, cheerleaders, students, and Faculty, the teams had plenty of support. After losing to Cave Spring in the opener, 31-O, the Irish fought back with new vigor. Following a loss to William Byrd, 25-0, the Irish scored their first points of the season in another loss to Altavista. Undis- couraged, the team looked good in the next game, but lost to a powerful Notre Dame team before a home crowd, 7-0. Craving for a victory, the Irish fans were elated by the team's next game where they stomped Valley High of Hot Springs, 21-0. After losing a close one to Central of Lowmoor, 18-14, before a Homecoming crowd, the boys whipped Brook- ville, 24-0, in the following game. After a hard-fought-tie with a much stronger Lord Boutetourt team, the Irish again battled to a tie, 12-12, with Appomatox on the last away-game of the season. Returning home, they licked Pembroke in good style, 21-14, to finish a great season. Nice going boys! se
