The ROA 0KE's Insignia A black dist- with a gold border bears the words, UNITED STATES SHIP ROANOKE and below, Cl,-1-15 between eight stars. The coat of arms is enclosed. The shield is divided diagonally by a chain representing unity of ships divisions between a dogwood blossom and a cardinal, symbols of the State of Virginia, on lields of maroon and gold, the ship's colors. Above the shield is the crestg on a wreath of gold and maroon an Indians head is represented in red, bearing red and white feathers in his black hair. The Indian eonnotes the deep-rooted relation of the shipis name to the history of our country.
