Baseball 'l'he fall of '43 found the Roanoke Rockets' baseball team winning three and losing four games. 'i nose receiving letters for baseball are as follows: Robert lvlchildowney, J ack bauuer, Jerry bauder, Jim Leman, Lloyd DeJohn, John Sauder, Ricnard Zimmerman, George Girardi, Roy Thommen, Roy 1-iangartner, and possibly harold DeLaval. 'rhe track team this year nas been faced with many difficulties. Weather was the most prominent. 'llhe future track team looks very favorable be- cause of tne numerous underclassmen participating in this event. 'Iwo seniors, two juniors, and eight underclassmen composed the track team. it was impossible to play tennis this spring because of the rainy weather although last fall the tennis courts were always busy. buying the cold weather months when sports outside were impossible, the students staged an inter-class ping pong tournament. Kenny Bachman took first place forthe ooys with Marvin Xordy coming in second. Donna Lschirer took the girls' tournament with Dot Martin second. An unusual interest was developed in volley ball this spring. An inter- class tournament was played, with the freshman boys winning over the sophomore boys, who took second place. The freshman and senior girls won first and second respectively. Bond and Stamp Sales For 43-44 R.V.H.S. has proven its patriotism the past year by the many thousands of dollars in stamps and bonds sold. A glance at the class totals show the freshmen to have purchased S3,848.55g the sophomores, 34003475 the juniors, S6,540.75, and the seniors in the lead with the huge sum of 359,880.08 These purchases, with those of the faculty and staff, make a grand total of 328,774.10 for the year. A Minute Man flag was placed in the second floor corridor in January. This indicates that at least 90 per cent of the student body bought stamps and bonds. Autographs 26 '
