All class choruses received high ratings and the specially selected mixed chorus which competed in the county contest held at R.V.H.S. received a rating of A, The judge called this one of the best high school mixed choruses he had ever heard. Wilma Scherer, who represented girls vocal for Roanoke, received a B, and Marvin Yordy, Who represented the boys, received an A. Anna Nof- singer received an A rating in piano. Basketball Picture Standing: Wayne Pisel, Vincent Ekiss, Jimmy Hangartner, Harold De- Laval, Joe Aeschleman, Roy Thommen, Marvin Yordy, Jim Davis. Seated: Jack Sauder, Jerry Sauder, John Sauder, Richard Zimmerman, Jim Leman. Basketball The basketball season of 1943-44 came to a close on Feb. 24, with the Rockets Winning eight games and losing fourteen games. Coach Cravens comments on the team, I realize that this year's team probably lost more games in a season of regular play than any other team which I have coached. However, they deserve a lot of praise because they were the best of trainers and fought to the last whistle. When one remembers that the tallest boy on the first team was five feet ten inches tall this accounts for so many losses. Next year will find two players absent from the team. Those graduating are Jack and Jerry Sauder. Those receiving letters for basketball are Captain Jerry Sauder, Richard Zimmerman, Jim Leman, Jack Sauder, and John Sauder. The junior boys took the inter-class basketball tournament over the senior boys who received second place. The senior girls took the inter-class basketball game from the freshmen, who received second place honors. 25
