put on a one-act play, Paul Loses the Ration Books. The characters were Roy Hangartner, Roger Elliott, Gene Sauder, Mardell Leman, Mary Lou Blunier, Catherine Pisel, Mary Catherine Bradley, and Leslie Ratliffe. Our play received a B. Many students entered other events of the contests. The freshmen came in last, but next year we'll work harder. A Well, I really must say good-bye now and we'l1 let you know all about us when we are sophomores. Freshman Day On May 4, the student council sponsored a Freshman Day, to which all incoming students were invited. These guests of the present freshmen attended the freshman classes in the morning. In the afternoon an inter- esting assembly program was presented. This program consisted of several musical numbers and speeches about the numerous extra-curricular activities. After the program the freshmen and their guests received treats. Forty-one guests were present. Freshman News When we freshmen entered school, the first thing the seniors thought of was initiation. Well, when initiation day came you should have seen us. We were really pretty sights, and on that afternoon we all had to do some funny stunt. Of course the next thing we thought about was the election of class officers. We elected Roger Elliott as presidentg Tim Bachman as vice presidentg Leo Bauman as secretary, and Roy Hangartner as treasurer. We chose Mr. Wiles as our clas superviser. We appreciate his cooperation and his willingness to help. In Mr. Wiles' science class, we Were studying the moon and on the night of the next full moon, we decided to have our class picnic. But as it rained we had it in the gym and we all had a grand time. Another outstanding event for the freshmen were the class contests. We 21

Music News As a Whole the musical portion of our extra-curricular activities was very successful the past year. A large number of students took part in the interclass contest, both vocal and instrumental. All class choruses received high ratings and the specially selected mixed chorus which competed in the county contest held at R.V.H.S. received a rating of A, The judge called this one of the best high school mixed choruses he had ever heard. Wilma Scherer, who represented girls vocal for Roanoke, received a B, and Marvin Yordy, Who represented the boys, received an A. Anna Nof- singer received an A rating in piano. Early in the spring the Roanoke High school band participated in the Band Festival held in Eureka. Many favorable comments resulted from the excellent showing made in this festival. 23 l
