URQUIDEZ UNITED STATES NAVAL RESERVE fTARj Commander Urquidez began his Navy career in 1973 by enlisting in his hometown of La Crescenta, California. He attended the Nara? Academy Preparatory School QNAPSJ in Bain- bridge, Maryland. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy in 1978 with a Bachelor of Sc?- ence degree, he received orders to USS DE- CATUR QDDG-31j homeported in Bremerton, Washington, as the Missiles Officer. The ship later changed homeport to San Diego, Cali- fornia. His next tour of duty was aboard USS HECTOR QAR-7j homeported in San Francisco, California, as the Navigator and Operations Officer. Commander Urquidez was then se- lectively detailed to Navy Recruiting District San Francisco for work in Minority and Nucle- ar Power Officer Procurement programs. After a successful tour while serving in recruit- g ing duty, he was selected into the Training and Administration of Reserves Program QTARJ. Upon completion of Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island, he reported for duty onboard USS IOHN A. MOORE QFFG-191 as the Combat Systems Officer. Commander Urquidez was deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Iranflraq war on the first Naval Reserve Force QNRFQ frigate to deploy overseas. While deployed with a crew of selectir e reservists, the ship conducted numerous EARNEST WILL escorts for the U.S. re-flagged Kuwaiti tankers and was involved In preliminary combat action which lead to OPERATION PRAYING MANTIS in retaliation for Iranian hostilities against U.S. Naval forces. Commander Urquidez was then transferred to USS WABASH QAOR 51 in August 1989, as the Operations Officer and Navigator. He participated in the military build up for OPERATION DESERT SHIELDXSTORM while deployed with the USS CARL VINSON QCVN 701 Battle Group. He was then ordered to the Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Readiness Center, Long Beach, California as the Training Officer while awaiting his orders to the Prospective Executive Officer's QPXOI Schoolin Newport, Rhode Island. Upon graduation, he reported in May of 1991 aboard USS ROANOKE QAOR 75 as the Executive Officer lust prior to ROANOKE's deployment in support of the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN QCVN 721 Battle Group during OPERATION DESERT STORM. Commander Urquidez is married to the former Herlinda I. Bradley of Eagle Rock, California. They have three children Ad ' D ld dl ' ' ' ' ' ' , nana, ona Bra ey and Karla.
