Here he consults with LCDR Lance McMillan, the ships Operations Officer. LCDR Davis W. Christie was born in Cambridge, Ohio. He graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1978 and received a Bache- lor of Science in Physics. After attending the Surface Warfare Of- ficer's School Basic Course at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, CA, his first operational assignment was aboard USS MERRILL CDD 976D where he act- ed as ship's electrical officer. His next assignment brought him to the USS KANSAS CITY QAOR 31 as First Divi- sion Officer and later as Assistant First Lieutenant. He followed that tour with an assignment to Commander Service Group One fnow renamed COMLOGGRU ONED. He served on the staff as Scheduling Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. Upon completion of the Surface Warfare Offi- cer School Department Head Course in Newport Rhode Island he was assigned to USS ALAMO CLSD 335 as Chief En- gineer. During his tenure, ALAMO re- ceived her first two Engineering red E awards in her thirty-two years of com- missioned service. LCDR Christiels decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. Executive Officer 7

LCDR Norman G. Laws was born in Great Lakes, Illinois in 1952. He was commissioned upon graduation and re- ceived a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illi- nois in Champaign, IL. He reported aboard his first ship, USS GLOVER QAGFF 15 in July 1976. He served as Navigator and Administration Officer and later as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer. GLOVER is homeported in Norfolk, VA. His next assignment was as Assistant Combat Information Officer aboard USS SARATOGA CCV 605, an aircraft car- rier homeported in Mayport, Florida. He served there from June 1979 till Decem- ber 1981. LCDR Laws next went to shore duty as Officer in Charge of the Yard Patrol Squadron in Newport, RI. From January 1982 till June 1984, he super- vised the training of cadets in small boat handling. In December 1984, he reported aboard USS ROBERT E. PEARY CFP 10735. He served as Weapons Officer on the Pearl Harbor-based frigated until Oc- tober 1986. LCDR Laws made the move to his first Long Beach-based ship, USS MOUNT VERNON QLSD-395, in December 1986. I-le served as First Lieutenant aboard the marine troop ship through June 1988, before hiss selection as executive officer for USS ROANOKE QAOR 75. LCDR Laws wears the Navy Commenda- tion Medal and various unit commenda- tions. As the sun sets over the CONSTELLA TIOM LCDR Laws seems to be rather deep in thought.
