Class History In the fall of 1949 Richard Krom, Bob Slee, Martha Schafer, David York, Penelope Fisher, Lee McCord, Glenn Coates, Priscilla Van Buskirk, and Judy Kendall entered the first grade at Roann High School. With Mrs. Deardorff as our example and our guide we learned to study and play together. We all remember the Christmas and Valentine decorations, the green sandbox that stood in the corner of the room, and our puzzle pages books. We remember the way she read Heidi , the picnic in Sloop ' s woods, and the day Mrs. Deardorff ' s chair collapsed with her. We remained in Mrs. Deardorff ' s room the second year. Having lost David York, Richard Krom, and Judy Kendall, we added to our class Becky Meyer, Jack Smith, and Richard Kilworth. It was this year that the girls stayed all night with Mrs. Deardorff, and her husband short -sheeted the bed and put a mousetrap in it. The third grade was spent in Mrs. White ' s room. Richard Kilworth left us and so did Glenn Coates; Dareld Randol and Sandra Penrod joined us. Here we discovered that you could some- times fool the teacher. We all took our chances by passing notes. Susan Martin and Elizabeth Joy joined us our fourth year. Lee McCord and Jack Smith moved. This was the year Priscilla got hit on the head with a pair of scissors by the frustrated art teacher. Mrs. Krom was our fifth grade teacher. We had one new member in our class - - Roberta Harrell. We elected class officers. Susan Martin, our president, spent most of class meetings sitting on a stool in front of the class giggling. Penelope, Susie, and Alice were sent to the office because they stayed outdoors after the bell had rung. The sixth grade holds cherished memories for us all. Mrs. Weimer, our teacher, helped us make clay tablets from mud and water as the early Romans did. We gained four new mem- bers: Bill, Alice, and Mack Murphy and Sheila Garner. Three of our classmates became band members. The girls discovered lipstick and the boys discovered the girls. At last we were upstairs - seventh graders - Junior High. Richard Krom returned and Bill James, Richard King, and Larry Davidson joined us. Sheila Garner, Susan Martin, and Alice, Bill, and Mack Murphy moved away. The eighth grade was spent quietly. Richard King moved. We studied hard and the next fall we all became Green Freshmen. Some of us were so enthralled with high school that we forgot to study and found ourselves in biology the next year too. We also had to outline all of Dickens ' Christmas Carol for Eng- lish class. Mrs. Wilson was our sponsor. Larry Davidson moved. The rest of the boys decided they were tired of shop and hid from the coach. As Sophomores Arden Gilmer and Dawn Graves joined us. Bill James left and Martha Schafer moved. This year we received our class sweaters - the first white Roann had. When we became Juniors we acquired Judy Delong as a member of the class. Dawn Graves moved. We got our class rings and were all busy with the concession and our candy sales. After eleven years of co-operation and companionship we entered the last of our high school career. We sold magazines and Christmas cards. We presented our Senior Play, Let Me Out of Here.l We left on our trip April 18. Now Commencement and Baccalaureate are over, and we are graduates of Roann High School. This is our past. That which lies before us is our future. Penelope Fisher Junior Class President Vice President .... The action takes place in the two-room apartment of Bo- na Lynn and Eve Boyd. Bona ' s brother, Garret, and his friend, Victor, come to the girls ' apartment while the girls are out. While they are waiting for Bona and Eve to return, Victor tears his trousers and Garret takes them to be mended. This starts a thrilling but riotous episode which ends happily. Since the first suc- cessful flight to the moon, the population there has increased from one to one thousand. 1 met my schoolmates at a reunion on Greater Mountain. As the Rocket Ship landed and 1 floated out, who do you think was there to meet me? None other than Professor Robert Slee of New Moon University. He graduated from Manchester College. He told me of his sorrow that Miss Penelope Fisher would not be able to make it since she had been thrown into New Moon Prison for floating over the speed limit. He also told me that Ad- miral Richard W. Krom h ad taken a special leave in order to be reunited with his class- mates. He is the admiral of the New Moon Navy. As we arrived in the picnic area the group was getting ready to eat the noon meal. Reverend Arden Gilmer led the group in prayer. Reverend Gilmer, the father of three small sons, is the clergyman of the Interplanetarium Church at Createrville. After the meal, the program which was to feature Miss Priscilla Van Buskirk , a grade school teacher and hypnotist, began. (Miss Van Buskirk has been accused of hypnotizing her pupils!) As her first subjects. Miss Van Buskirk chose Mr. and Mrs. Dareld Randol. Miss Van Buskirk has them under her control already, I see. By the way, Mrs. Randol is the former Miss Rebecca Sue Meyer . Mrs. Randol has made a success of her life as an etiquette specialist. Her husband took over his father ' s business as a mechanic and has worked his way up as a rocket mechanic. Mr. and Mrs. Randol recently wrote a book called ROCKET ETIQUETTE. Watching the funny scenes is Miss Judy DeLong. Judy hadn ' t yet decided what she wanted to do after graduating but I see she made a wise decision. Miss DeLong now de- signs dresses for a well-known manufacturer. She brought fame to herself with her latest creation. Judy has on her famous Moon Dress today. Congratulations, Judy. Well, 1 decided I had better leave the scene. 1 don ' t want them to hypnotize me and find out about my secret life. Pam Cline Sharon Gilmer 4
