eacofzwtofzq In the fall of 1945 22 currous eyes focused on our frrst grade teacher Mrs Deardorff The mem bers of the class were Rex Gr1mm Brrce Shepherd Jerry Murphy Glenn Mrlam Jxm Slee Jrm Rogers Terry Mrller Patr1c1a Lewls Judlth Haynes Ruby Holemback and Lavaughn Krndley Durmg the year Terry Pell and Beverley Byers came Terry Pell refused to get perrmssron from the teacher before speak rn Ruby Holemback left us rn our second year of the school career Glenn Mxlam and Jrmmy Slee de crded they lxked the fust grade better and stayed Glenn had been 111 dur1ng the year Patty Lewrs also moved durrng the year Amta Baker Jorned us Thrs year Jerry Murphy k1SSCd all the grrls We enjoyed our prcnrcs walks and stones very much We entered the th1rd grade wrth a new teacher Mrs Fox Those Jormng us th1s year were Nancy Tomlrnson Dean IIHCS Katherrne Johnson Iamce Lewrs and Ronnre Ulrey Lavaughn Krndley moved away th1s year Mrs Fox taught us essentrals rn keepmg trdy desks Dean J1nes left us dunng the fourth grade Phyll1s and Carolyn Wtlllarnson Jolned us We were get t1ng accustomed to school and felt so rmportant around the frrst and second grades Mrs Fox was agarn our teacher Carolyn dropped back a grade In the frfth grade of school we had Mr Fouts for our teacher We got some more guls 111 our grade They were Bonme Boardman and Sharon Brant Th1s was the year we started not1c1ng the boys Our srxth grade was strll under the supervrsron of Mr Fouts Sharon Brant Bonnre Boardman and Rex Gr1mm left us PBIIICIB Chapman Jorned the class All the grrls parred off but we strll had lots of un We frnally made rt' We came upstarrs tl11s year Myl I lt 15 remarkable how fast we grew up that Bussard was our sponsor We had a halloween party at Judy s tlus year We lost a member of our class Brrce Shepherd rn the erghth grade Dale Joy Jorned the class Everyone but Pamcra Chapman and Phyllrs W1l113mSOH got sent to the offrce f.h1S year We went on strike 111 Mr Plummer s class and refused to talk Anrta by way of note sard she had a cold and could n t talk and Pat wrote on a note that she left her glasses at home QShe d1dn t even wear glasses J Mrs Norman was our sponsor Green Freshmen at last Jerry Murphy moved Norma Tabor Jorned our class but then left agarn Mrs Norman was agam our sponsor Sophomores and full of pranks' B111 Carman became a member of our class this year Mrs H111 was our sponsor We had a come as you are party at the school house We also were guests of Ronnre Ulrey at a Chrrstmas party We presented a pantom1me called One Meatball and won frrst we had two paper drrves thrs year Our Junror year was packed wrth excrtement We ran the concessron stand We also presented our Jumor play Seventeen rs Terrrfrc After PIBCIICCS we loved to p1le rn one or two cars and drrve around After eleven years of co operatlon we entered our last year of schoolrng Bxll Carman left us and Janrce Harden Jorned us Remember our busy schedule seruors the play Galloprng Ghosts card sales magazme sales etc '7 Our sponsor was Mrss Mansfreld Our class offrcers were Presrdent Dale Joy V1ce Presrdent Nancy Tomlmson Secretary Pat Chapman and Treasurer Beverley Byers We w1ll be glad to recerve our drplomas but some will regret that therr schoohng at Roann wrll be of the past We will all stuve to make somethmg of our lxves 1n the future to tell for our tra1n1ng rn the past Judy Haynes I I . g' . . . f . summer. The ULERYS as you know have recently returned from Florrda where they have been rn sprrng trarmng w1th the Brooklyn Dodgers of whom RON ALD IS manager The lrttle Dodgers Gtll Don and Mrckey stayed wrth the Crrsts whrle therr pal'6llIS were rn Florrda Mrs Crrst was the former JANIICE HARDEN who now has srx chrldren of her own After the long rrde to the sprmg tramrng base we vrsrted JUDITH HAYNES who 15 a commercral teacher rn one of the largest schools rn Vero Beach and told her about our trrp On our way through Wabash County 1n lndrana we saw a huge plant rt was a Locker Plant lwe stopped to look around and found the owner of the enterprrse was TERRY MILLER l-le asked us to hate lunch wrth htm out at hrs Mtnk Ranch but we thought we should get the car rollrng agarn We drove for what seemed ltke days mstead of hours and soon entered Kentucky Wh1le drrvmg along we saw a group of marchrng men and guess who was rn charge? TERRY PELL Before long we came to a stgn that read Army Arr Force Base We remembered that JAMES ROGERS another classmate of Ronald s owned a Motel about oO mrles further so we stayed there for the mght Jrm really knows the motel busmess and he had good tratnmg for tt at Internatronal Busrness College Whtle rrdmg through Tennessee we thought the country seemed very desolate more so than back home rn Indrana We saw a srgn that read Atomrc Energy Plant We thought thrs very rnterestrng so we dectded to see rf we were allowed to look around You ll never guess who we saw Dr PAT CHAP MAN who 15 workmg as a research screntrst on I-low Atomrc Energy affects the human mmd She told us she had gotten a letter a few days before from NANCY TOMLINSON who IS a publrc accountant Nancy sard she had Just been to the Georgia State Capttol checkrng books and had met PHYLLIS WIL LIAMSON who works as a Comptometer operator for the Governor She also sard that BEVERLEY BYERS was dorng the same k1nd of work for the Florrda Governor Beverley rs known a Mrs Vernon Krnzre now and has two of the sweetest llttle grrls We told Pat we would drop rn to see them on our way After leavrng the plant we dectded we had better strck to the road 1f we wanted to reach the Dodger Trammg Base at Vero Beach ln trme Whrle drrvmg through DeLand we notrced that people were lrned up for blocks When we saw why we just had to Jorn them It could be no one but Anna Jean the most popular srnger and actress rn the country You knew her as ANITA BAKER By the way have you heard her new record of Foot Loose and Fancy Free? After reachrng Vero Beach you know how busy Ronald ts tn sprmg trarntng a grrl frrend and I took rn the races at Sarasota In the thrrd race I was scanmng over the racrng form to de rde what horse I would place my bet on I notrced that Mrnt Catcher was the favorrte The Jockey was D P Joy I placed my bet on Mlm Catcher and won' I 1nqu1red around to see who thrs Jockey was and learned that he was orrgrnally from Indlana I remembered Ronald had sard he had a classmate by the name of DALE JOY I asked the Jockey and sure enough he was the same person We then caught the tram back to Vero Beach When I told Ronald who we had seen he was drsap pomted because he d1dn't get to talk wrth htm Ronald asked me to wrtte htm to come for a week end anyttme rn the near future and he would show hrm around the stadlum where the Dodgers work out We then came here to your house and you know the rest We had better get back to our hotel now and start packrng 1f we are startrng back to lndrana tomorrow We are qurte anxtous to see our chrldren 1 1 1 I A ' I I V . .
