NOVEMBER 7, 1973 PAGE 9 Vincennes Sun-Commercial Rivet Pulls Off Miraculous Rally For Sectional Trophy Vincennes Rivet made a mir- aculous comeback in the final game of the championship match to win its own Girls Volleyball IHSAA Sectional Tournament Tuesday night at Gibault Gym, beating Haub- stadt, 2-1. The victory quali- fies the Patriots for Saturday's IHSAA Regional at Washing- ton. Rivet, now 8-0 for the year, was on the brink of defeat in the rubber game of the cham- pionship match, trailing 0-12 and 3-14. before making its uncanny come-from-behind effort with 13 straight points and an eventual 16-14 win. Haubstadt, loser to only Rivet during the regular season, won the opening game of the match. 15-11, after trailing, 7 11. The Patriots won game two with ease, 15-1, jumping off to a 10-0 lead. It was a team effort for the Patriots, all the way. but it was Kathy Pea who sparked the Rivet comeback in that final game by scoring on eight con- secutive serves to puli her team from a 6-14 deficit into a 14- 14 stalemate. Haubstadt and Rivet made it to the finals with semifinal victories over North Knox and Vincennes Lincoln, res- pectively. In the first semifinal match last night. Rivet edged Lincoln in two close games, 15- 10 and 17-15. Kathy Pea and Kathy Rich were the leading scorers for coach Pam Fay’s Patriots in that game while Ann Dixon, Maryann Kaiser and Brenda Lowe were standout players for coach Kay Ogle’s Lincoln girls. Haubstadt had an easier time in its semifinal match, dumping North Knox in two straight games. 15-1 and 15-2. Th: Warrior'. c arched b'1 Mrs. I eAnne Gilmore, conclud- ed their season with a glossy 7-4 record, nevertheless. The Alices bowed out with a final 4-5 ledger. Rivet was aided in its victory last night by a highly vocal homecourt crowd — estimated at over 800 strong.
