First Place-Art Class HOMECOMING November 5 and 6 was the date for the 1959 Homecoming celebration. Although plans had begun many weeks in advance, the actual Homecoming festivities were set in motion with a snake dancen the evening of November 5. The long line of students wound its way from the park, across town, to the High School where a rousing pep rally was held around a huge bonfire. Activity resumed the next morning and despite the cool, windy weather the festive spirit burned warmly. Seniors, Jennifer Quine and Carolyn Hendrickson, and Iunior. Barbara Anderson, were chosen as Homecoming candidates. A very scenic and colorful parade traveled down main street to conclude the morning festivities. At the game, lovely Carolyn Hendrickson was named as Homecoming Queen. She and her attendants were honored at the half-time ceremony. The royalty reigned over the remainder of this annual activity. The hopes of cheerleaders, students, and spectators were high but at the final gun a more determined Lander team had become the victor of the afternoon. Although spirits were dampened by the loss of the game there was still fun to be had at the dance that evening. This was the one big happy event of 1959 wrapped up and presented by and for R.H.S. labeled Homecoming Second Place-Juniors Mickey or Jerry?
