The council acts as the leadership branch of the student body. The council has been responsible for many worth while activities during the year. The publication of a weekly news letter was put into effect this year for the first time. Its purpose is to inform the students of council affairs and activities of student concern. Under the direction of the Student Council the monitor system was again used to keep order in the halls between classes and at noon. The Student Council is also in charge of the activity points system. This system is set up to give the students credit for their outside activities. After achieving 100-200 points a student is rewarded with an Honor certificate or Honor pin. Tournament helfl in Riverton. Vocational Agriculture boys hold a prominent place in local and state activities. The Riverton judging team placed third in state competition. Dick Darnall earned a State Farmer Award-a very small percent of F.F.A. boys in the state receive this award. Twelve things F.F.A. boys try to remember as they prepare for their future careers are: the value of time, the success of perseverance, the pleasure of working, the dignity of simplicity, the worth of character, the power of kindness, the influence of example, the obligation of duty, the wisdom of economy, the virtue of patience, the importance of talent, and the joy of originating. This is the first year since 1956 that the F.F.A. boys have had the privilege of working in a shop. The new shop is, of course, a great asset toward the furtherance of Future Farmer training. The new shop also includes some conveniences that the old shop did not have. Although plans had begun many weeks in advance, the actual Homecoming festivities were set in motion with a snake dancen the evening of November 5. The long line of students wound its way from the park, across town, to the High School where a rousing pep rally was held around a huge bonfire. Activity resumed the next morning and despite the cool, windy weather the festive spirit burned warmly. Seniors, Jennifer Quine and Carolyn Hendrickson, and Iunior. Barbara Anderson, were chosen as Homecoming candidates. A very scenic and colorful parade traveled down main street to conclude the morning festivities. At the game, lovely Carolyn Hendrickson was named as Homecoming Queen. She and her attendants were honored at the half-time ceremony. The royalty reigned over the remainder of this annual activity. The hopes of cheerleaders, students, and spectators were high but at the final gun a more determined Lander team had become the victor of the afternoon. Although spirits were dampened by the loss of the game there was still fun to be had at the dance that evening. This was the one big happy event of 1959 wrapped up and presented by and for R.H.S. labeled Homecoming Second Place-Juniors Mickey or Jerry?
