WIGLEY Eighty active members under the leadership of the following: Buddy Darwin, President; Dickey Payne, Vice President; Robert Bridges, Secretary; Rioe Anderson, Treasurer; James Higginbotham, Reporter; James Hardin, Sentinel; and J. D. Wigley, Advisor has again brought accomplishments and recognition on to our chapter. We won seven county, thirteen district, six state, one Tri-State, and three National awards the past year, making this a successful year. Benny Lasseter won the county speaking contest and also the quiz contest. In the Calf Show, Charlie Joe Strong showed the Champion Hereford steer and also champion of the Shorthorn breed. Morris Dean Patterson had the Champion Angus and John Richard’s Hereford steer was Reserve Champion of the show and John won first on showmanship. In district competition, the quartet composed of Benny Lasseter, Laymon Blackburn, Alvie Bridges, and W. D. Moon placed second. Benny won the speaking contest. Billy Mullins, Charlie Joe Strong, and Jan White won first on Dairy Judging, while beef cattle judging was won by W. D. Moon, Donald Sublett, and Buddy Darwin. Benny won second place on the district corn show sponsored by Pfister, Buddy Simmons placed first in yellow corn varieties. Thomas Hamilton, Thomas Warren, and Kenneth Sharp won the com judging contest. Thomas Warren had the highest score of any participant and was awarded a wrist watch. In the calf show in Birmingham, Charlie Joe and Morris Dean won first in Class. Charlie Joe showed the reserve champion Shorthorn and Morris Dean won the show with his 1032 pound (Grand Champion) Angus steer. At the State Convention in Aubum the chapter received the top chapter award for the sixth consecutive year. The chapter placed first in beef cattle judging, fourth in farm safety and third in the radio program demonstration. The dairy judging team placed second at the State Fair and the Sears Bull placed first in the state breeding program winning the $200 prize. Jeanette Neeley won the Tri-State FFA Queen Contest. At the National Convention in Kansas City the chapter was awarded the Gold Emblem for the sixth consecutive year the Livestock judging team composed of Donald Sublett, Buddy Darwin and Kenneth Sharp received the Bronze Emblem. Jan White received a Gold Emblem for showing livestock for the judging contest. To develop leadership, more than thirty members participated in the public speaking contest, seven members attended the State Convention, and four members received State Farmer degrees. FVTUPj IERica Builders for Better Homes is our theme and the fifty-five members have worked hard to carry out that theme under the leadership of the following: Jeanette Neeley, President; Lucy Ray, Vice President; Peggy Beard, Second Vice President; Sherry Matter, Secretary; Lynda Green, Treasurer; Patsy Jones, His- torian; Mary Elkins, Assistant Historian; Peggy Mullins, Parliamentarian; Delores Phillips, Reporter; Mary Ann Manley, Assistant Reporter; Judy Brown, Song Leader; Doris Petty, Assistant Song Leader; and Mrs. J. D. Wigley, Advisor. Martha Voekel, Jeanette Neeley, Nancy Coleman, Patsy Jones, Mary Elkins, Lynda Green, Doris Petty, Juanita Selby, Margaret Woods, Sherry Matter, Francis Lamb, Glenda Lamb, Peggy Mullins and our advisor attended the state convention at Alabama College. Martha, Jeanette, Nancy, Mary, Patsy and Margaret assisted with registration; Doris sang in the All-State Chorus; Jeanette represented Madison County in the Miss FHA contest; Lynda, Mary and Sherry modeled in the I Made It Fashion Show; Jeanette, Nancy, Lynda, and Martha took pan in the ceremony for those receiving State degrees. Patsy, Mary, Doris, Juanita, Margaret, Sherry and Francis received State Homemaker Degrees, also Lucy Ray and Peggy Fears. Jeanette was elected State Reponer. The PTA sent Jeanette to the Southern Regional FHA conference in Daytona Beach, Florida. We have held weekly meetings, have given a 25 minute radio program, had a spend-the-night party with 54 present and have given several chapel programs and bought a complete automatic laundry for the department. We stuffed 1500 envelopes with TB seals for the Pilot Club. Our dairy judging team attended the District show in Decatur. Glenda Lamb won prizes on her Jersey heifers. The Seniors entered the Betty Crocker Search for the Homemaker of Tomorrow. Fifteen members are working toward State Home- maker degrees. Our State Degree members are evaluating the applications for State Degrees from our district. Jeanette Neeley and Mrs. Wigley attended the Officers Workshop at Alabama College and the Executive Council Meeting in Montgomery. Nancy Coleman, Sherry Matter, Lucy Ray, Glenda Lamb and Delores Phillips are competing for FFA Queen. We have had several FFA-FHA parties and are plan- ning an educational trip.
