EMPlRE'S 144,000 KILOWATT STEAM GENERATING PLANT Riverton, Kansas Principal source of supply of electric power for The 62,000 Empire customers living in 126 communities in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Two new units have been added to This plant since The close of World War II, more Than doubling its capacity over a five-year period. The first of these, a 33,000 kilowatt unit, was completed in 1950, and the second, a 44,000 kilowatt unit, was placed in service in May of 1954. The Riverton plant, located twelve miles west of Joplin, Missouri, is favorably situated near fuel supplies of coal, gas, and oil.
