YOUNG, WILLING AND ABLE First Row-fleft to rightj Patricia Rogers, Bonnie Haner, Betty Ryon, Iva Jo Hall, Bertha Wade, Peggy Stringer, Johanna Howell, Miss Mary Louise Atkins CSponsorj. Second Row-Gerald Garrett, Paul Derfelt, Ray Luley, Faye Bilke, Patricia Pliler, James Cole, Jack Dale Inman, Harold Paul. Freshman Play Cast 'iYoung, Willing and Able was presented by the freshman class on March 18, 1949. The action of the entire play took place in a private office at the manu- facturing plant of the Beasley Musical Instrument Company, located in the small mid-western town of Corn Center. J. Beethoven Beasley CGerald Gar- rettj, the owner, was about to go into bankruptcy. He had old-fashioned ways of doing business in these days of modern, high pressure methods. Beasley's son, Jimmy CPaul Derfeltj, returned from prep school in the east. Dottie Stone CFaye Bilkeb, his father's young secretary, told Jimmy that Beasley instruments were the best made. All the business needed was a little pep in its management, a few ideas in the realm of advertising and promotion--in a word: youth. Mr. Beasley agreed to give the younger generation a chance if they could persuade Ophelia Pringle Clva Jo Hallj, the town's richest, to extend the note she held against the company. Jimmie and Dottie succeeded in doing this: then with the aid of their young friends, they launched their campaign to put the company back on its feet. They organized the 'Beasley Boogie-Woogie Band. Their advertising proved that Beasley instruments had fewer sour notes in them than any other make. But, just when things were beginning to look brighter, Ophelia Pringle called in the note for personal rea- sons, and the youngsters were apparently headed for disaster. In a succession of richly comic scenes, this disaster is averted, and youth marched forward in its inevitable triumph. Other members of the cast included: Stormy Weather CHarold Paulj, an Indian Chief who wanted to play the piccolo: Betsy Beasley CBetty Ryonj, Jimmy's nine year old sister: Abbey Pringle CPatricia Rogersb, who put on airs and considered herself very superior: Gertrude Grump fPeggy Stringerj, who was musically inclined: Corky Powers CJack Dale Inmanj, a young promoter: Willie Wilson fJames Colej, who had a sales personality: Tiny Betts CPatricia Plilerj, a girl who liked to eat: Hilda Hope fJohanna Hcwelll and Selena Mayer CBertha Wadej , who were friends of Dottie: Rick Carter fRaymond Luleyj, a trouble-maker, and Lita Francis CBonnie Hanerj, a friend of Jimmy's and a little snob. 'E Mary Evelyn Potter was the student director. The director of the play was Miss Mary Louise Atkins. Electron Page Twenty-eight

Second Row-Bobby Gene Mitchell, Captain: Maurice Sears, Jack Watson, Harold Price. The Royal Ramblers carried the colors of Riverton High School into battle in a manner of which RHS may justly be proud, Always a spirited, hard playing team, the 1948 Ramblers won three games and lost six. An inexperienced group of boys, under the coaching of Wyatt P. Laughlin, gained valuable experience and learned a lot about football that no doubt will make them a team hard to beat next year. Bobby Gene Mitchell, the 120 pound captain of the team, and Maurice Sears, a junior, were chosen on the Neosho Valley League All-Star Team. Bobby Gene Mitchell, Jack Watson, Lyle Ballard, Clarence Watson, William Hall, Harold Dean Mishler, and Bobby Howard will be lost by grad- uation. Other lettermen, who will form the nucleus of the 1949 Ramblers are Maurice Sears, David AuBuchon, Bobby Joe Lyerla, Perry Saunders, Jr., Harold Price and Kenneth Rogers.
