These men are not in our administration for the glory they receive, but for the glory of the school. There are many things our administrators do to improve our school that many people of the corn- munity do not realize. They are interested in all of our school activities: scholastic work, athletics, dra- matics, and music. For all the work they have done and the time they have given to the school, the seniors of 1948 wish to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation. on Page Four THE JUDGE AND THE JURY , A its E Ss 5 . s N53 la- I.liO A. Here is the latest scoop. Dr. Harlan Mills, top notch scientist with the Lovelorn Laboratories, has 'successfully isolated the Virus XO which has caused the spring epidemic of love-sickness. He is planning to vaccinate. Wayne Kirk. the labor leader for the H. D. D. CHeavy Duty Dodgersj has called the members out on a sitldown strike. His latest statement to the press: This is a pressing problem. but we will sit it out. Horace Saunders, the iron magnate, has received a very difficult assignment from' the government-that is to manufacture a transparent iron curtain so we can see through Russia. Lorraine Gist and Freda Bilke have pooled talents and now operate the successfubbeauty clinic, Lor-Reda, Redu and Renu Salon. The two business women specialize in diet and dye it. Freda for the figure and Lorraine for the hair. Raymond Paul is the new Johnnie for Phillip Morris. The future call for Phillip Morris is little Johnny Lee Paul who calls his mother Evalee-- Potter that was. Arthur Stephen Carnahan, brilliant novelist, has written an intellectual study on the love-life of a potato bug. intriguingly titled, So Long Spud. Steve's book has been banned in Boston. The featured singer at the Swanky Supper Club, south of Joplin, is the exotic Erma- Myers, that is. We hear she is singing her torchiest numbers especially for the sauve, but seldom sober, Homer Jones, proprietor. Miss Dora Lou Scott heads the exclusive Kiddies Kare Nursery-only children with hand- some fathers are accepted. David Osborn, famous for his 1,500 word essays, Winchell Style, is the newest scoop snoop on N.Bf.C. His program is called You Still It. I Spill It and his theme song is I Wonder Who's Suing Me Now. Louise Gibson and her husband, Bill Mann, are truck farmers of Quaker Valley. So far they haven't raised a single successful crop. Buddy Ball is Cherokee County's outstanding truant officer. During the spring. fall or winter he sees that the schools have record attendance. Professor James Grimes has just about completed that space ship for his planned zoom to the moon. when asked why he wanted to be the first to make this daring expedition, he exclaimed, I believe that the man in the moon is a woman-ahhhhhhl !. Betty Frazier stars in the new daytime serial, Life Can Be Moisturizedf' sponsored by Clarence Merrill, the Fu-Suds soap king. For twelve box tops, Fu-Suds will send you one beautiful very absorbent cheese-cloth hankie. Nadine Webb could not be present. as you all know, she is leading the fillibuster in the Senate on the major issue To Argue or Not to Argue. Her private secretary is John Connor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Green, those distinguished cold wave manufacturers, rolled up in a plastic vehicle. Riverton alumni will remember Mrs. Green as the former Norma Rose Lathrop. The latest is that everything isn't too Toni with their marriage. Geanne-that is Jean Mast-the new dictator of the fashion world fiew down from Kansas City, the Paris of the U. S. Geanne is the creator of the new look for this season, the Tea Bag Line. That couple you have noticed flying low was Walter Ballard and Juanita Livingston. Walter's the chief pilot for the TWA and Juanita is the stewardess. I wonder why Walter has the automatic pilot set most of the time? Could be he is searching for-Livingston???? Bill Miller was Riverton's number one dog catcher-that is until the other day when he hauled in the mayor's pedigreed daschund by mistake and now he is sure Riverton is going to the dogs. Bill Kirk was there looking very bronzed and brawny. He is the new golf professional at the Country Club. We hear he is planning to take off with his caddy cutie, Tama Kuns. N. J. Coyle is that swooney screen wolf. whose latest starring role with the Eager Beaver, Inc., was Coyote Call. Oh, yes, playing opposite him was that beautiful blonde known as Dorthea , better known to you as Dorothy Pigg. Joanne'Qualls is now the most famous woman lawyer and instead of giving her most valuable advice to her clients, it still goes to Jack Baumann, her silent partner. Jack, as you krlilowl, is still trying to change the government and has been ever since his senior days in high sc oo . ' Thomas Garber was present looking very debonair. His presidential ambitions are very obvious now. We hear he has opened a haberdashery and oh, yes, he plays the piano, too. fContinued on page eighty-six? Each student has a chance to try out for the part for which he is best suited. The sponsors select the cast, stage crew, make-up director, prompters, and ushers. In addition to the class plays, this year the students have been given the opportunity of taking individual lessons and taking part in class instruction in the field of elocution under the qualified supervision of Mrs. Adelia Clark. Mrs, Clark has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dramatics and Commerce from Pitts- burg, and has an outstanding record of achievement. Speaking before audiences in either a school play or a reading gives the students a chance to learn to speak correctly and helps to develop poise. balance, and confidence in the individual. The money received from the class plays is placed in the class activity fund and is used for the various class activities and to help with the high school annual. The Riverton B team had a very successful season in 1947-48. They won flrst place in the Neosho Valley League tournament and their record for the year was eight wins and four losses. There was a fairly large squad this year with two full teams on hand and almost all of these boys saw plenty of action. The team was made up largely of sophomores and juniors. Several good prospects for next year's A team were developed. The boys played a lot of good basketball during this season. I, David Osborn, will my desire to write 15,000 word themes for Miss Atkins to Bobby Joe Lyerla. 36. I, Fannie Burnett, will my quiet ways to Otis Atkins, Clifford Hardy, Jr.. and Chester Bilke. 37. Horace Saunders, will my bundle pitching ability to Harold Price. 39. I, Nadine Webb, will my chartered seat in the dressing room to anyone who can think up excuses to get out of study hall. 40. I, Walter Ballard, will my hair that I lost when I had my crew cut to Max Livingston Csee Lee Carr for the remainsj. 41. I, Raymond Paul, will my nick name half-pint to any one little enough to H11 it. To Miss Stairrett and Coach Laughlin we leave all of our good times as you were the ones who made them possible. To Mr. King we leave all the good voices from the Lyrians so he will have a good chorus next year. To Mr. Madaus we leave all twenty-one bookkeeping books, adding machine, typewriters, borrowed pencils, and erasers and all the time we sacrificed for him. To Mr. Sanborn we leave all the good luck he could possibly use because he has been so nice to us. To the juniors we leave our Fifth Hour Government teacher, Miss Atkins because we think you can carry on where we left off. To the sophomores we leave the job of carrying the spirit of R.H.S. To the freshmen we leave all our fun and intelligence to help them through the next three years. To Mr. Barkley we leave a bottle of perfume to overcome the odors from the foul mixtures made by the seniors in chemistry. To Mr. Culbertson we leave the ear plugs that we used to deaden the noise made by the planer during the sixth hour. To Rgliss Hughes we leave our thanks for preparing the sandwiches for the us trips. 'A' SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY-Continued Mr. Ray Lee Williams strolled up and incidentally he was wearing his trousers knee-length. lt's his own best advertisement, since Mr. Williams is the manufacturer of those gorgeous gams you see enclosed in nylon hosiery in the shop windows. The managers of that swank hash-house, Alice Anderson and Maxine Mooney were there. We hear the food is excellent and their specialty is Lucifer Cake Cfallen angelj. Retha Bowman is the newest addition to the Globe Trotters, the Hawaiian dancers part. that is. Emma Larison is the society leader of Riverton, and she invited all the ladies to tea next Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. Bessie Winfrey has fulfilled a life long ambition and an here-to-fore undiscovered secret. She has found the spot that Pepsi-Cola hits. Fannie Blurnett is that grand bookkeeping teacher. They say she is going to Washington this year to see if she can balance the budget for the president. Edwin Haner flew in just before lunch: of course, you all know, Edwin is now the new flying parson.
