FRESHMAN HISTORY On September 2, 1946, thirty-eight determined and inexperienced fresh- men began their lessons. of school. Many of them were very confused in the beginning Through all this confusion came Mr. Gerald E. Barkley and Mr. Herbert S. Madaus, the class sponsors, to calm them. They started off on the right foot by electing capable officers: Clifford Hardy, Jr., President: Donald Barr, Vice- President: Bobby Joe Lyerla, Secretary: Chester Bilke, Treasurer. Cheer leaders were Marilyn Prather and Patsy Mast. ' The Electron Princess and Prince chosen for the year were Patricia Benton and Maurice Sears. The first party on the activity list was a Weiner roast held on October 3, 1946. The next event was the electing of candidates for the Carnival Queen. Patty Thatcher was chosen and the freshmen ranked third in the sale of tickets. A Christmas party was held on December 20, 1946. They had a gaily decorated Christmas tree. Presents were exchanged and treats were served by their sponsors. The freshmen nominated Patty Thatcher for the Sweetheart of their class, and they ranked fourth in the contest. The important event every freshman looked forward to was the freshmen play, Watch Out For Spooks, which was presented on March 26, 1947.
