SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On September 13, 1943, fifty-five freshmen enrolled in Riverton High School to start a course of training that would enable them to take their places as citizens of the community with confidence and ability. The class sponsors were Miss Marjorie Havens and Mr. Joel Livingston. The class officers were Wayne Messenger, President: Donald Mishler, Vice-President: and Scottie May, Secretary-Treasurer. Gladys Miller and James Earl Livingston added a touch of royalty to the class by being selected as Princess and Prince of the Electron. Two one-act plays were presented: The Pampered Darling, a comedy, and Who Murdered Whom? a mystery. A three months' vacation was granted to the students to practice what they had learned during their first year. Forty-nine sophomores came back on September 7, 1944, to resume the course of study. Miss Agnes C. Stairrett and Mr. Wyatt P. Laughlin sponsored the group through the second year. Presiding officers were Mary Hardy as President, Robert Card as Vice-President, and Scottie May as Secretary-Treas- urer. The class play was The Angell Brats. The sophomores were honored by having Jane Marie Williams and Donald Mishler be the first underclassmen to become King and Queen of the Electron. September 3, 1945, found thirty-three juniors ready for the third year of the courses they had undertaken. They selected Miss Agnes C. Stairrett and Mr. Gerald E. Barkley as their sponsors, Mary Jo Wilson, President: Mary Hardy, Vice-President: Wayne Messenger, Secretary: and Jane Marie Williams, Treasurer. The outstanding play of the year was The All American Family. Mary Hardy and Lloyd Bowers were class Princess and Prince. The juniors placed second in the Sweetheart Contest with Scottie May as the Class Sweet- heart. The junior's southern hospitality was shown at the Annual Junior- Senior Banquet in the Auditorium on May 3. Three more months of vacation were taken to prepare for the senior year at R. H. S. On September 2, 1946, thirty-eight seniors came back for their last year as students in Riverton High School. This time the sponsors were Miss Agnes C. Stairrett and Mr. Raymond A. King and the class oflicers were Calvin Win- frey, President: Jane Marie Williams, Vice-President: Mary Hardy, Secretary: and Robert Card, Treasurer. This year the class reflected the training of the previous three years and demonstrated their newly developed initiative and leadership qualities in all activities undertaken by them. Glenna Dell Barr and Bud Garber, their candidates for King and Queen of the Electron won first place. On October 25, Wanda Kuns was crowned Queen of the Grade School Carnival. On February 14, Mary Hardy was crowned Sweetheart Queen of '47. James Earl Livingston, Calvin Winfrey, Ray Anderson and Robert Card demonstrated ability in basketball of which the entire class was proud. Jane Marie Williams and Mary Hardy were the school cheerleaders. Class members feel that they are capable of assuming their places in society and accepting their responsibilities with confidence. The class has been given a good start during the four-year course here in school, and they shall continue to advance and do their best in all that they do.
