RAM SPIRIT IS DEAD Who cares about Riverside High? Apparently only a very few did, because in a poll taken by the Stu- dent Government which asked whether or not Spirit Week should remain, the majority voted uno. The problem rested in the fact that not enough people cared and only wanted to participate in the few major events such as Home- coming, Sports Night and of course, football, wrestling and basketball, with the end result of a very few people working on the less impor- tant things. The kids that cared were the va- rious officers, their friends, and maybe a few who had alittle bit of spirit. And in that small group, the number of guys could be counted on one hand. For such sports as girls' hockey and basketball, bowling, soccer, tennis, cross country, track, and golf, the attendance was very poor -another example of the lack of the spirit in Riverside. Pep Rallies, held before most major events, seemed to be the only time that the entire student body stood together and showed their school spirit. But was it really SCHOOL spirit or was it CLASS spirit? And after the pep rally, when a class won the spirit stick, did they show their true loyalty to the school by faithfully supporting Riverside activities? Maybe if Spirit Week and Simi- liar activities were given as much publicity as some of the other events in the school, more kids would take part or, just making a lot more students aware that River- side High School doesn't belong to a chosen few, but it belongs to ev- eryone, for it is up to the students toe bring spirit back.
