However, with grim determination, patience and an understanding philosophy, you have worked as a unit and have successfully fulfilled all your obligations and conquered the obiectives that befronted you when you entered high school. This represents just one of the many steps you will take in your life time. After graduation you again will be faced with more obligations to be fulfilled and objectives to be attained. I am sure by displaying the same traits as in the past you will again be successful and life will be good and kind to you. GEORGE E. POWELL Principal Congratulations to the Class of l959: Our best wishes go with every member of the graduating class. You have completed a most important phase of your life, one that should be the goal of every one, Graduation from High School. As you review the past twelve years, I am certain the good times will far exceed what- ever displeasures you might have encountered. What about the future? Many of you will con- tinue your education in preparation for a pro- fessional or business career. Others will seek em- ployment or remain at home. Whatever vocation you choose, do the iob well. We challenge you to live wisely and thoughtfully, remembering those lessons learned in Riverside High School which should have prepared you for the day when you go forth on your own. THOMAS R. Her election to the office of treas- urer for the second consecutive year showed the complete confidence and trust which the Class of '59 had in Relda. She will be remembered as a person to whom anyone could turn whenever anything had to be done. HARRY JOHNSTONE As President I shall try to lead our class to a very successful year of social and money-making activities. Harry has more than carried out his campaign promise. Un- der his leadership the Class of '59 has com- pleted all its endeavors successfully. His capabilities and devotion to his class and school have been evident throughout his two years as vice-president and two years as president. He has diligently set himself to the task of conducting class meetings, try- ing at all times to follow suggestions of the class advisors and wishes of the class. Un- faltering, he served on all committees, often without acknowledgement or reward. Harry, the Class of '59 wishes to say, Thanks for a iob well done! AUDREY VOUGHT Although this engaging girl from Haddon- field High had only been at Riverside for less than two years, the Senior Class soon discerned in her the qualities necessary for a vice-president. Wherever and whenever she participated in an activity, her leadership and sincerity were clearly evident. As vice- president Audrey was an ex-officio mem- ber of all committees and served as a mem- ber of the House of representatives. She was the spokesman for the class, ever ready and willing to defend whatever she and the class believed. Audrey, you have not only lived up to the trust and faith of the class, but you have returned it two-fold. 5'q9e ' Q, -5' Y7 PATRICIA DUGAN There is no substitute for hard work! is what the Senior Class had in mind when they elected Pat as secretary of the class. Her years as unofficial assistant secretary were observed and appreciated by the class. Pat is a real worker, whenever volunteers were needed, she was always one of the first to offer her services. Although she has been very active in extracurricular activities, she also had time to take excellent notes for the Class of '59. Her unselfish devotion and dependability have been typical of our class officers. For all these things, the class will forever be grateful. DONALD ANDERSON Don . . . The play, in three acts, was a titanic success ex- pressly through the superlative efforts of its taskmaster, Mr. William Wells, and Mr. Hugh Graham and his Stage Crew, who constructed and planned sets and scenery. In the plot, Falstaffian Sheridan Whiteside finds his celebrated wit no weapon with which to combat an injured hip sustained on the doorstep of Nlr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Stanley of Messalia, Ohio. Result: Bedlam reigns over the Stanley. household when Whiteside at- tempts To lure Bert Jefferson away from his lovesick secretary via Miss Lorraine Sheldon. OO v S0 9' td loo X ovaxva Shox, C C CAKAE 10 Dis ER The cast, consisting of nearly 35 seniors eager for histrionic glory, did it up brown. Some of the head- liners making their debut were Ed Rockstein as portly Sheridan Whiteside, critic, wit, and intimate friend of the great and near great, Pat Dugan, as Maggie Cutler, Whiteside's moonstruck secretary, prima donna, Jane Rutkovvski as that flirtatious Lorraine Sheldon, Dan Caruso, who was simply vvon'erful as Bert Jefferson, star reporter for the Mesalia Journal , and lastly Dianne Klemm, the Florence Nightingale of Mesalia, Ohio. Numerous other seniors appeared tn the limelight in lesser roles. Also a heartfelt vote of thanks is owed to the people who worked behind scenes, on prop com- mittees, advertising, make-up and prompting. Early in the year we became the envy of all underclassmen as we proudly dis- played our newly acquired class rings. With a successful cake sale in December we proved to everyone that we were a talented group in the kitchens as well as the classroom. We had a lot of fun planning our dance, Down Memory Lane, where we played all our favorite old tunes and relived their memories. But we received our biggest thrill when top honors as the biggest and happiest event of the year were bestowed upon our Junior Prom, where we shared all the sparkle and fun ofthe evening with the seniors and underclassmen. Thanks to the guidance of our helpful class advisors, Mrs. Ethel Williams and Mr. Charles Kudy, this has been a year to remember! The girls reported for daily practices and did their best as they competed against Mt. Holly, Palmyra, and Pemberton. Truly basketball history was made as Riverside copped the Group ll State Championship. With their amazing record to back them up and speak for them the Rams lived up to their reputation, They were a credit to coach Charles Lehman and Riverside High School as they exhibited the sportsmanship and teamwork which had resulted in an undefeated season. The combination of an air tight defense, a stellar offense, the tactical guidance of Coach Lehman, and the determination and stamina equal to professional players enabled the Rams to achieve their goal, the State Championship. Without a doubt, the Rams are a team of which we can be proud. They have made a lasting impression in Riverside High School and the state. 86 Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Rive side Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside Riverside SEASON RECORD O N J S D Burlington Bordentown Hightstown Nl llville Pemberton Pennington Palmyra Florence Steinert Allentown Hightstown Bordentown N J S D Pemberton Pennington Burlington Allentown Palmyra Florence TOURNAMENT RECORD 93 64 841 81 641 Pitman Salem , Gloucester Matawan North Arlington 5 X 3 ,,,, ,J Y 9 ff' 1 . ,,,. 5 .liz , , , ' 5 Jf. - x L , f 1 3 1 it y Q , xv s' Q, P, E -nv-uns-ng -l Y 3 4 gear Q Q 5 af.
