T-H-E T-O-R-C'H I es zslory I IME 1980 Ll-IARACII ERS Grandma graduate of Class of 1938 C.Vranddar1ghter pupil of Rix erside High School Class of 1984 O1 course I remember den It seems only xesterdax that I xxas in high school Mine xx as the class of 1936 I xxas just as exerted about the aetivitres of my elass as you are Let me tell you about them We entered Riverside High School a xx ay back in 1934 Well I recall the shortness of our boys and the giggles of our girls We became organized xx ith Miss Mathilde Lomer ford a nexx member of the facultx as our class adxisor The first election of otfi cers xx as held and Herman lDutehexr Ruehmlrng xx as made president Joseph Johnston xice president lVlrnnre Guenther secretary and Cordella 1Corkeyl Rapp treasurer We had a grand time that first year for we had none of the xxorrres of the upper elassmen and xxe xxere gix en consideration bx every one beeause of our greenness During the year xxe held our elass party What the party lacked in dignrtv it made up lor rn home made cake and Tak a Boost To eompensate for all that had been gixen us our elass gave a reeeption lor the incoming freshmen xx ho were so eager to take our places lhis xx as the first receptrorr of its kind ever to be given although the folloxxrng classes have lolloxx ed our example September came again and xxith it came the beginning of our second vcar The class oliicers xx ere chosen and Charles Murphy became president vxith Sarah Woessner his assistant Alma Zipperlein acted as secretarx and Ethel Hopps treasurer We spent the year studying and attendrng the football and basketball games and tr'relx meets We supported the plays given by the Juniors and Seniors and looked for xx rrd to giving our oxxn 'I he class party xx as fun for everyone and in the spring xxe had eh rnee eame in the torm of a Senior Sophomore dance which xxas more than sueeessful The Junior xear brought little ehange in the class officers Charles Murphy and Lthel Hopps retained their positions as president and treasurer xx hrle Jane O Rourke and Lordella Rapp xxere eleeted xiee president and seeretarx respeetrxelv This year xxe reeeixed another class adxisor Mr Martin Pocrus xxas appointed to assist Miss Comer ford in her duties at our helm Our third year in high school as a group xxas crovx ned xxith nnancial success We produced a plax ealled Anns a Blond sponsored txxo dances a movie benefit and helped sponsor the Junior Senior Prom Thex say the best things are alxxaxs saved till last and so it seems to have been xxith us Brom the lirst day xxe entered IOH we became a compact group xxorking for the same things the Washington trip and graduation We elected Jimmie Orfe as our nexx leader and Natalie Rafgitis as viee president The other otlrcers were unchanged We xxorked on projects eontinually In the early fall a Senior play Double Trouble xx rs presented Christmas eards xxere sold and dances xx ere given Then rn May our long avx arted trip to Washington xxas taken and no Senior of l938 xxrll ever forget rt for it xx as xxorth all the xxork of prexious years And so dear June arrived and our four years of learning and laughing came to an end Riverside High Sehool gave us more than a diploma rt gave us a chance to develop ourselves as individuals and a group It gaxe us memorres that we have never forgotten and tor xxhielr vxe are strll grateful May your four years in school be as pleasant as' ours xxere Twenty six X if X V I U9 N ' ' ey f f ,, V V V - V ' , V-V , VV ' I VVXV' V V, V .' , V ,VV' VNV V V KVVVV V V V V ' V 1 'V I 1 V ' V' ' V ' ' V V V V V.
