Message From Valedictorian ROSE MARIE VARELA For us, the Class of 1960, tonight marks the conclusion of our four years at Riverside High School and the commencement of a new way of life. It is a time both of sorrow and ivy- We are sad because, for many of us, this means parting from friends, since tonight we all go our different and separate ways - some to college, some to our jobs, and others to the various branches of the armed forces. We are aware that many of the good times we have enjoyed together will now only be memories and that we are leaving behind what may be the most carefree years of our lives. From here we must step into a new adult world with its complex problems and serious responsibilities. The time has come for us to stand on our own feet and live up to the obligations we owe to our parents and teachers who have guided us through these past four years. On the other hand, we are happy that we have reached our goal - graduation. Another chapter in our lives has been completed and before us lie unlimited opportunities and challenges of expanding horizons as never before experienced by American generations. We have a better chance of securing further education, gaining success, and enjoying an interesting life with meaning. It is our duty to take advantage of these privileges and to do our utmost to become worthy of the name, Riverside'High School graduates. We leave our alma mater with some regrets, but with the confidence and courage that though the path ahead may be difficult we have been well prepared at Riverside to travel on it.
