Mr. Harry l. Good Completes 34 Years Of Faithful Service In The Buffalo Schools This June Mr. Harry l. Good retires as Deputy Superintendent of Schools after six years of service in this position.This year will mark the completion of histhirty- fourth year as a member of the Buffalo School Department. He has worked hard and come a long way to success since his first days in Bellevue, Ohio, where he ob- tained his early public school education. After working briefly as a private se cretary in the Marion Steam Shovel Co. in Ohio, he began his long career as a peda- gog. In this way he acquired business ex- perience before he received formal busi- ness education. While preparing himself for his career, he received the bachelor of commercial science degree in 1920 from New York University, the Bachelor of Science degree in l927, and the Master of Arts degree in 1931 from the University of Buffalo. Mr. Good has the singular distinc- tion of being the first recipient of the Busi- ness Administration degree from the U. of B. in l927. He was also awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship key in commerce and the Delta Pi Epsilon graduate key for research in Business Education by New York University. Mr. Good successively headed the Busi- ness Department of the following schools: Rome Eree Academy, Schenectady High School, the Utica Eree Academy, and Hutchinson-Central High School in Buf- falo. He was Supervisor of Business Ed- ucation in Buffalo public schools from 1933 until 1936 when he became the Asso- ciate Superintendent of Schools for Sec- ondary Education, a position he held until 1949. When Dr. Robert T. Bapst retired in November 1949, Mr. Good, because of his fine reputation, was chosen to replace him as Acting Superintendent until September l95O. He has also been a member of the Board of Examiners, Board of Education. lt was in i950 that Mr. Good was appoint- ed as Deputy Superintendent of Schools in

Mr. Good initiates Driver Education at R.H.S. High School teachers attending Yale University, as John Hay Fellows. Elementary School Principals' Dinner Buffalo. He was chosen for this job be- cause of his outstanding ability as a teacher and leader. Mr. Good attended the University of Buffalo in two capacities, as a student and as a teacher. As a teacher he lectured in accounting and business education in Millard Fillmore College, U.B., for 25 years, and in the University of Buffalo summer sessions. He was the Associate Professor of Education of the summer ses- sions at the Ohio State University, Colum- bus, Ohio. Under the State Education Department he served as a member of the Regents Question Committee in Business Educa- tion and as Chairman of the State Syllabus Committee in Business Education. Mr. Good is an outstanding member of many worthwhile organizations, among which are: the New York State Teachers Association, the Associated Academic Principals of New York State, the National Education Association, the American Association of School Administrators, and the Eastern Business Teachers Associa- tion of which he was secretary from T932 to i938 and President in i939. To his credit Mr. Good has the co- authorship of many well-known books on business subjects, among them, Busi- ness Record Keeping , Principles of Accounting , Visualized Business Law , and Today's Business Arithme- tic . Because of his ability and talent as a confident leader, many citations and a- wards have been bestowed upon him. The U. of B. awarded him the citation for out- standing service in the field of education. The New York University Alumni Club of Buffalo gave him an award in recognition of his outstandingwork in education. Delta Pi Epsilon elected him as the one honorary member to be chosen in 1947 in recogni- tion of his contributions to business edu- cation and leadership. Mr. Good has served the educational needs of our city with great sincerity and devotion since 1927. He will be missed greatly when he retires after 34 years of service to the Buffalo Education System.
