SHIPS THAT HAVE REACHED THEIR HAVEN It IS w1th deep regret that we record the passmg of two of Rlverslde s outstanding cltlzens Charles G Oelhelm and Arthur Westphal both of whom were keenly lnterested IH the welfare of our school On April 26 1954 Mr Oelhelm was struck down by a truck ln down town Buffalo and dxed two hours later The l1st of Mr Oelhelms accompllshments and act1v1t1es IS an 1m PFCSSIVC one We mentlon only those lmmedxately related to ourselves At one tlme he successfully prevented a rallroad line blsectlng the communlty He helped to brmg about the addltlon for School 65 and the constructlon of the same school He assisted ln the move to wlden Tona Wanda Street and ellmmate lo al grade crosslngs Through hlS asslstance Rlverslde Hlgh School was bullt on 1ts present SITC mstead of elsewhere READ more Charles G Oelhelm Mr Oelhelm was a founder and a past presldent of the Riverside Buslnessmen s Assoc1at1on At the tlme of h1s death he was a dlrector and Hts younger son Bennett vsas a post graduate and his younger daughter Dorothy a graduate of Rlverslde Hlgh School On May ll 1954 thls communlty was agaln shocked and saddened by the untlmely death of Arthur Westphal He dled as the result of ll'l1l1I'lCS suffered ln an auto accident near Frle Pennsylvanla READ moto Arthurj Westphal He had only recently been appointed a member of the Board of Educatlon In h1s qulet frlendly manner he took a vltal lnterest ln the Improvement of the Buffalo Publlc School System Llvlng ln thlS com munlty he was especlally Interested 1n Rlverslde Hlgh School and grammar schools IH thls VICIHIIY He was chalrman of the Zonlng Board of Appeals He had also been a former 21st Ward G O P general commxtteeman Years may pass by but the lmprmt left by both these men on our school and communlty IS lndellble Man wzth hzs burmng soul Has but an hour o breath To butld a shzp of Truth In whzch hzs soul may sall Oelhenm Memornal Plaque Masefield l 6 . . . . . , 9 ' s 9 3 - Y l ' C .
