SHIPBUILDERS MR LLOYD A MILLER 1932 1952 Mr M1ller launched his teaching career at Riv erslde ln l932 as a faculty member of the Busl ness Department In 1939 he was appointed Guid ance Counselor From 1942 1946 he assumed the responslbilmes of an Assistant Prmcipal He once again resumed his teaching post until 1948 when he received his appointment as Assistant Principal In 1952 he was transferred to East High School where at present he holds the same posltlon M Miller 1S especially remembered for his enthusiasm friendliness and genial sense of humor He has a ship of firm timbers at Rlverslde DR IRWIN H I-IIMMELE 1946 1948 Dr Hlmmele now Assistant Superintendent of Schools served as Assistant Prlnclpal at RlV6l'S1dC from anuary l946 to August 1948 Prior to 1946 he served as Information and Educatlon OHicer for the Strateglc Airforces of the Pacific wlth the rank of Colonel after five years of servlce in World War II Before this he had been Assistant Principal at Lafayette High School Dr Hlmmele IS recorded ln Rlversldes log book as a man of ambition 1n1t1at1ve and executive ablllty He proved himself to be a master shlpbullder , , ' ' . r. , . been of far-reaching assistance in helping to build t , . . 7 I - ' , , . . FOREWORD At Riverside High School we are naturally aware of our proximity to the Niagara River and the passing of lake freighters, canal barges, tugboats, sailboats, motorboats, and yachts. Our First newspaper was appropriately named The Pilot , our yearbook, The Skippern. More than once during our 25 years of school life has a nautical theme been used in the yearbook. This, being our Silver Anniversary year, we again deem it fitting to employ the theme of boats and the symbolism that lies therein. We sail the high seas, are tempest-tossed, becalmed, and Finally reach the quiet haven of graduation. Whether we are a vessel or a tiny craft, each of us has a course to follow and a purpose to fulfill. May the beacon-light of knowledge ever burn brightly to guide us as we near port.
