SHIPBUILDERS MR LLOYD A MILLER 1932 1952 Mr M1ller launched his teaching career at Riv erslde ln l932 as a faculty member of the Busl ness Department In 1939 he was appointed Guid ance Counselor From 1942 1946 he assumed the responslbilmes of an Assistant Prmcipal He once again resumed his teaching post until 1948 when he received his appointment as Assistant Principal In 1952 he was transferred to East High School where at present he holds the same posltlon M Miller 1S especially remembered for his enthusiasm friendliness and genial sense of humor He has a ship of firm timbers at Rlverslde DR IRWIN H I-IIMMELE 1946 1948 Dr Hlmmele now Assistant Superintendent of Schools served as Assistant Prlnclpal at RlV6l'S1dC from anuary l946 to August 1948 Prior to 1946 he served as Information and Educatlon OHicer for the Strateglc Airforces of the Pacific wlth the rank of Colonel after five years of servlce in World War II Before this he had been Assistant Principal at Lafayette High School Dr Hlmmele IS recorded ln Rlversldes log book as a man of ambition 1n1t1at1ve and executive ablllty He proved himself to be a master shlpbullder , , ' ' . r. , . been of far-reaching assistance in helping to build t , . . 7 I - ' , , . . SHIPBUILDERS MR ROBERT C McGOWAN 1952 1955 Since September 1952 Mr McGowan has helped to chart our course at Riverside He came to us from East High School where he had been the boys Guidance Counselor from 1949 1952 Previous to that time he was an instructor of mathematics at Lafayette Hlgh School from l937 1949 Mr McGowan very quickly became an integral part of our activities and work at River side He has unselfishly and uncomplainingly has established a record for good attendance of Riverside students No matter what part of the ship he helps to build the work is well done THE PURPLE AND THE GOLD We raise a song to honor The name we hold so dear Our voices take the glad refrain And echo far and near A glorious future beckons Our lofty aim shall hold All honor love and praise to brlng To the Purple and the Gold Alma Mater Alma Mater' We hail thee YVltl'l deep pride' Sing lt loud and clear that all may hear We hall thee Riverside' -Carolyn Wixon, 1930 9 l 3 ' , . 9 shouldered a large burden of responsibilities.
