EL SS UF 1949 RETROSPECT When we came to school as freshmen in September forty-five, We often lost our way around the halls of Riverside, We struggled through our Algebra and General Science too, Complaining 'bout vacations 'cause We thought they were too few. The year went on without a pause, June rolled around before We had a chance to practice the name of Sophomore. With flying colors, we came back to do all that was needed, Then, to our joy, fate took a hand and for us intercededg It happened that despite reproof lest we should miss a day, The teachers took a week from school to strike for better pay. But we returned again, alas. and struggled through each test, To reach the rack of Junior, we all did our very best. We cheered our team at football games and basketball as well, And when we won those baseball games, you should have heard us yell On Junior Day we planted a treeg now surely you'll agree, That a Junior tree that actually lives is something new to see. It seemed our Prom was hardly past before the year was ended, And senior rooms of Riverside their welcome doors extended. The job of being seniors gave us a feeling of great pride, For now we were the very top, the leaders of Riversideg We've tried to set examples of faith and loyalty, And now, at last, to graduate becomes a reality. We, the Class of Forty-Nine, do make this pledge sincereg To revere her name and ne'er forget our Alma Mater dear. Ann. E. Nagle 16
