RAY W. SPEAR Principal ' TO THE GRADUATJNG CLASS OF 1949 g I-IEN we realize how quickly time passes, we become aware how important it is to use every minute before it is gone forever. Since Riverside High School first opened, nineteen years have already slipped by. During that time 4061 young men and women have been graduated from this school and taken their places in the life of this community or elsewhere in the world. Your Class will add over 200 more names to this roll. How have you used your time during the four years you have been here 'P How will you now apply what you have learned, to the future? Consider what Henry Van ,Dyke has said, The true success of student life does not lie in the attainment of scholarship alone, but in the unfolding of an intelligent, upright, fearless, reverent, ' kind, and happy manhood Cor womanhoodl, ready and glad to do service in the world. As you leave lftiverside to obtain employment or to further your education, think of your future living and learning in terms of doing service in the world. Mere fame may be a barren thing, but the man or woman who 1S of service to others leads a happy and fruitful life. As citizens, not only of your community, nor of America alone, but of the world, there are new responsibilities to be assumed. So far you have been guided along the Way by parents and teachers. Have you used your time wisely so that you can go on now, alone? We are living in a time of great and grave importance to the whole human race. What will you do to help to mold it into a human ami y Greatly begin! though thou have time But for a line, be that sublime. The faculty and I Wish you success and happiness for the future. Your principal and friend, nf fylffaaa
