During the year Social Science Club participates in two government functions, these are the County and City Government Days. This club also per- forms at the Thanksgiving Day Program. The American Field Service com- mittee helps the exchange students to feel at home at Riverside. It also raises money to help send our A.F.S. candidates abroad. On United Nations Day, the committee prepares a program for the student body, at which the A.F.S. students are intro- duced, and the returnee gives a talk on his experiences. On A.F.S. Day, the committee welcomes students and returnees from other schools, present- ing them to our students, and having them spend the remainder of the day here. A. F. S. Frosty, my A.F.S. brother, arrived at the be- ginning of the year, never having gone bowling, never having watched TV, and never having played the sax. In his quiet and reserved manner he has become proficient in all three. He brought with him a love of music, gospel hymns, and jazz. When I get home after school, I am sure to be greeted by a wailing sax from the basement, a shoot-,em-up, drag-,em-out Western, or war pic- ture on TV, or Burl Ives, Mahalia Jackson, Dave Brubeck blasting out of the stereo. The purpose of the All-In-Ones is to provide edu- cational entertainment. The Racine orchestra plays Nacht Musik for an auditorium program. A lesson in jazz. After having no pep rallies for a year, this yearls were gratefully accepted. This year's Variety Show, Salute to Broadwayf, was the result of talent and hard work displayed by the student that took part in it. Almost all the acts were from Broadway plays. This is the first year in the history of East that we have had a HB team Cheerleading squad. The seven girls selected for this squad proved a great addition to the sup- port at the games of our NB' teams. The B team and the eight girls on our Varsity Cheerleading squad worked during the summer and came up with some clever new cheers. The compliments that have been heaped on these squads are the result of vigorous. early morning practices. ln turn. we have had more spirited pep rallies, and more unified cheering at the games. The pom-pom girls lead the team through the various movements One, two, cha cha cha! Much of our enjoyment at football and basket- ball garnes is provided by the Drill Team, of which we are justly proud. The Team is corn- prised of seventy girls of all grades. For each appearance, the girls go through a different set of precise formations and dances.
