Mr. Howard Aplin joined The Riverside TaculTy, as a member oT The Commercial deparTmenT, in SepTember, l92O, He TaughT in several small Wisconsin schools while he worked Tor his degrees Trom The UniversiTy of Wisconsin. He served his counTry well in World War l, in France. His service To The school over a span oT ThirTy-six years leTT iTs mark in a greaT many areas. Thousands oT sTudenTs who were in his bookkeeping, commercial law, salesmanship, and ariThmeTic classes remember him as a serious, good-naTured, Tair and eTTecTive Teacher, who helped Them prepare Tor work in Their chosen Tields. Perhaps his mosT ouTsTanding service To The school in general was his work as AThleTic DirecTor Tor a quarTer oT a cenTury. To The average sTudenT, liTTle is known oT The men behind The scenes -Those who iron ouT The innumerable kinks which develop Through The seasons oT sporTs, and Those who Take care oT The insurance coverage of The players and The Tiling and collecTion OT claims Tor iniuries. However, The coaches aTTesT To Mr. Aplin's deep undersTanding, his Thorough aTTenTion To even Tliile smallesT maTTer oT concern, and his TaiThTul, willing cooperaTion wiTh Them aT a Times. No greaTer praise can be said oT anyone, Than The words OT our Principal, Mr, Aplin meT The challenge OT each succeeding year oT Teaching wiTh zesT and good humor. His classes were lively and sTimulaTing, his knowledge oT subiecT maTTer was mosT Thorough, and his inTeresT in The liTe and spiriT oT our school, as shown mainly in his work as AThleTic DirecTor, never Tlagged.
