Schneck Zn iwltmnnam When Mr. Schneck passed away in March, our class and the entire school lost not only a principal, but a true friend. Mr. Schneck was head of the physics department, and then vice-principal for many years. In 1953 he became principal. He was the first director of the high school band. Most of us remember him best as the enthusiastic leader of community singing-for his favorite songs, Grandfather's Clock, and Stout Hearted Men. Mr. Schneck was always fair, understanding, and keenly interested in the welfare of his students. We shall remember him not only as an able adminis- trator, but as a great-hearted man who devoted himself to Riverside. In appreciation for all that he did for us, and in his memory, we dedicate this book ' LWW 'Wf ' VFX ffffff wwgfw 629223 +112 fig if of WWA ' 35-fx Ypzfffgg ,4 X? R -N'q1W? We shall miss Riverside for the years here have been truly good years. We certainly hope that we have faithfully uphld Rivcrside's noble traditions and left a few of our own to become precedents, perhaps. We want the torch of Riverside's greatness to remain burning brightly, and now as wo depart, wc declare the following to be our last will and testament: Shirley Schreiber leaves her golden tresses' along with a bottle of Light'n Bright to janet Dopki. Jim Hishmeh wills his title of Arab to anyone with the necessary qualifications. Gloria Gumina leaves her friendly good nature to Barbara Koch. Bob Henzl gives his position of senior wheel to any versatile lad capable of turning it. Donald Mueller leaves, still making careless comments. Louise Pick, Margie Gove, and Marjie Turner leave their trio to any three deserving pals at East. Nina Amoroso gladly gives her ROW l, SEAT 1, classroom desks to Marie Anello, another A. David fliinsteinj Weldon donates an unused adding machine to someone who needs it more than he. Shirley Liss hurries oif to catch up with Ray. Y Chuck Dreyfuss and his trombone leave together, still trumping for Riverside. Dolores Germano leaves Sharon Murdoch to shume along the halls. Bob Goessner bequeaths his curly hair to Artie Huth. Gertrude Bingenheimer, jean Langdon, and Elaine Coons leave little brothers and sisters at East. Marion Stops leaves that crazy cackle to Dorothy Moffatt. Pat Sergeant gives her Senior Secretary's Book to Dotty Meicle. Ted Zollendeck leaves still yelling T-E-M! Barbara Mosher and janet Weber resign their sneaky study hall tactics to Jerry Gnxenwald and Tom Kelepouris. Phil Currier leaves Bob Reseh to all those who admired his big beautiful eyes. Charlotte Cherty and Marilyn Rowe go with their typewriter: still clicking. Ward Parker, Ray Schmitt, and James Seeger leave just as they entered-oh, so quietly. .f ' l i Betty Nerad hurriedly departs to join all her old pals. Marilyn Grupp takes off like a big bird to ascend her stairway to the sky. Don Kowalski wills his boisterous disposition to Angelo Nazeres. Carrie Suchomski leaves just a few tardy slips to Judy Andrews who will probably l need them. l- .Y Midge Weber bequeaths her ping-pong prowess to Joyce Whitcomb. l l Ray Wilvers and Dave Simmons leave Tom Rice and Dick Aaron to give Mr. Suchy grief. , Ron Kolwitz and Tammy Smith depart with sketches still fluttering from their pens. l Dick Goetz leaves that quiet nature to Russell Rose. Anita Neumann leaves her 6th hour study hall to anyone who thinks he can cope 1 with persistent peekers. Jack Dorsch wills that sweet smile to Myron Stamos. Dave Black .and Bob Rowan leave, - completely changed individuals. ll Carol Andrews leaves Mousie Mueller to amuse Mr. Pleister 4th hour. l Lila Dessert and Helen Wall go with the same amount of enthusiasm and school spirit they always had, Rocco Cincotta leaves Barbara Pytlik, but only during school hours, he says. Beverly Schmit wills a very neat locker to some unsuspecting young freshie. Claire Randa leaves her cousin Pat to carry on the Rand: name ar East. Mary -Kalimannis bequeaths her seat in 317 to any freshie who promises to be as quiet as she. tl Mary McCairns wills her dramatic ability to anyone who can match it. l Barry Fletcher leaves his easy hours to anyone who likes to sleep all morning. Sharon Doke leaves the many friends she has acquired in her extended stay at East. Lorraine Brown and Dorothy Horvat depart with sweet memories of Mrs. Boltz's speech class. Andra Turlais wills her physics experiments to anyone who can make them work. Warren Adameak leaves the title of Ace to be remembered rather than used, for we've all agreed that the glory of that name should remain his alone. 4 We, the 12A's leave four front rows of auditorium seats to the few fortunate l l2B's who we hope will be able to ill them. N . l 1 l - ly L -W , CLASS PROPHECY As the nurse, JEAN PARKER, showed me into the doctor's oflice, I couldn't help but wonder if I would be here if I hadn't entered the advertising business. Due to the extreme tension of the business, I had developed the habit of talking in slogans, and I had reluctantly come to the psychiatrist to rid myself of this mania. DR. HUSTON will be back shortly, the nurse said. Ever since the Democrats got back into the White House he's been helping President HOWELL and Vice-President LOHR with their problems. The 'phone bills are terriic. Just make yourself comfortableg there's the couch. Not trusting myself to answer, I nodded, and as soon as she left the room I went over to the files which I had noticed weren't locked. Wondering if anyone had any odder psychoses than I did, I became con- vinced that they did when I saw the names of the doctor's patients. They were all members of the June graduating class of 1954 of Riverside High School. At least they all have jobs good enough to pay doctor bills, I thought. I felt ashamed of myself because I hadn't kept-in touch with any of my former classmates except BOB HERRON, and I only saw him because be worked in the same Ad agency. Looking through the files, I saw that DICK AARON, famous criminal lawyer, had a persecution complex. He was convinced that all of his clients that were sent to jail were out gunning for him. As a result he always wore a long white beard and a flowing black cape in order to look inconspicuous. The famous composer, JOHN BARON, could not concentrate on his music because every time he noticed someone passing his window he would stop work to yell down the street D'ya have any stamps? It seemed as if several of the girls had gone into some phase of office work, and they kept on hearing the typewriter bell even after hours. Poor KAY BRESSLER, JEAN DELNO, KATHRYN FLAHERTY, ANN JANKOWSKI, GERTRUDE KALTENBACH, GERALDINE KNOPPA, KATHLEEN HARTHUN, and DOROTHY WARANKA. It must be an occupational disease, In the file marked Teachers I saw the names of quite a few of my former friends. They were all suffering from the same maladyg they wanted to kill their pupils. For shame, LOIS GUMZ, PETER KAMUCHEY, DOROTHY KWICIEN, SANDY SUITS, and MARY LOU THORNBURG! A whole mass of the fellows in the class had gone on to become engineers. ARTHUR JUESCHKE and NEILL LUEDTKE were archi- tectural engineers, WILLAM KRAMER was a design engineer, JACK LUECKENBACH and JAMES WOLF were civil engineers, and DONALD POWICHROSKI was an electrical engineer. They had all suffered nervous breakdowns because they were all competing with each other to design the Universal Nations Building. I -at l I l Some of my classmates were under some rather odd delusions. JANE BAKER wanted to ride around the world on a horse. TONY DI TRAPANI was on a never ending search to find out how to make money without any work. ELMER HOFFMAN didn't want to do anything. GAY MEYER was convinced that she was the fat woman in the circus, and MARIE NEITZKE wanted to teach school on Mars. I heard the doctor talking to the nurse in the outer oliice, so I hurried through the files, just glancing at the occupations instead of the diagnoses. BARBARA BERGSTROM and DIANE MILLER were physical therapists. DAVID EVANS was a physicist, FRED GRUD- NOWSKI a printer, and SUSAN HECKER a horse-breeder. JOANNE HOHOLIK and DIANE LORENZ were fashion designersg BYRON JORDAN was an ambulance driver. The folder marked Television had an unusual number of people from the same show in it. The show, directed by ANNE SHIPMAN. was written by ANN MUSGROVE, the photography was done by KENNETH NIX, MILDRED MEAD danced in it, and the male and female leads were played by ROGER LUNDHOLM and CAROL MCEACHRON. DARBY EWALD played an elderly lady, KARL SCHNABEL was in the band,.PETER JENSEN ran the slide machine used for commercials, and TOM RICE announced. It looked as if the government didn't agree with others besides the President and the Vice-President. PATSY ROSENAU, who worked for the F.B.I., NELLIE PARKS, who was a social worker, PEGGY LONGBRAKE, who was a forest ranger, and MARIANNA KAULINS, who was an interpretess, were all included in the doctor's files. They all had a mania about a raise in the budget, every time they saw an envelope addressed to them, they thought it was a notice that their salaries had been raised. Some people in medicine had the same idea-chemist ROBERT UEBERFLUSS, and laboratory technician NANCY PHELPS. A bulky folder proclaimed College Life, and therein I found that a group of students had started an athletic college, co-educational naturally, and a course in the college entitled you to the degree of Doctor of Sports. The male coaches were LOUIS AVENI, JOE ENEA, HOWARD BIERMAN, ED NICHOLS, and DON SPOTT. DOTTY MEIDE was professional cheer-leader, and JOAN SHAW was Dean of Women, with RON MAKOWSKI Dean of Men. The doctor also took care of the famous oil tycoon, owner of the Standard Oil Company, NORMAN SCHECTERLE, although he didn't limit his practice to the rich, because I found the names of the former NIERRY VALLEE and GLORIA VOIGHT, housewives. As I finished looking at the last name, the doctor hurried into the ofice. Motioning me to sit down he asked me my name, and why I had come to visit him. My name is SANDY FRIEDMAN I've come here for your aids Because I talk in slogans. How're you fixed for blades? ,Ei-34. -. . I - 'K . W' . ,. ' - f id' ' ., . 1 11' fr .sf-' ':j2f:5 fg,g.g.. ANASTASI. CROSS COUNTRY Our cross-country team wasn't too successful this year partly due to the shortage of material. The team didn't have any individual stars, but the first three or four runners tried to stay close together. Every runner made a sincere effort to improve the team. The B squad had a very good season winning every meet they entered. Although they were not able to enter a full team in the North Sectional and city meets because of a shortage of boys.
