PANTHERS MAKE HISTORY AT RIVERSIDE The 1981-82 Riverside Panthers finished their regular season this year with a 5-5 record. The Pan¬ thers dropped from Class AA to Class A and became the District 13-A Champs after defeating Old Hickory Academy 8-7 for the Championship title. The Panthers continued their climb to the top as they took revenge on the McKenzie Rebels. The Rebels spoiled Riverside’s Homecoming festivities with their 14-6 victory over the Panthers. But in the regional playoffs the Panthers showed their stuff and defeated the R ebels 15-7 for the Region 7-A title. By this time, spirits were soaring and everyone was sure that Panther Pride was indeed countywide as the Panthers proceeded to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. The Panthers did battle with Memphis Prep and, unfortunately, lost the 34-0. County business still showed their pride in the Panthers as long as Long Equipment Company and Citizens State Bank fed the team and cheerleaders and Broadway Farms. Many thanks go to all the businesses and in¬ dividuals of Decatur County who supported the Pan¬ thers this year. A hearty thanks goes out to Larry Bar¬ rett, Mike Watson, and Head Coach Jerry Hayes for their great coaching and support throughout the season. A “Best Supporters of the Year” award should be given to the members of the Quarterback Club who put forth a great deal of their time and effort for the team. They supported the Panthers, win or lose, with their claps, cowbells, and cheers. The biggest THANK YOU and CONGRATULA¬ TIONS go out especially for the team. Without their spirit, drive, and hard-nosed determination, a suc¬ cessful year wouldn’t have been possible. Congratulations to the ten seniors that were chosen for the All District team, to the three of those ten selected to the All West State Team, and to David Summers for making All State Honorable Mention. Congratulations and thanks again Panthers for be¬ ing the first team in Riverside’s history to advance to the state playoffs and for making the 1981-82 school year one to remember. 87 Jamey Taylor — Captain, 4 Yr.; Lcttcrman, Lineman All District Team, All West Tennessee 3rd Team.
