Right: Getting to the beoch is a major preoc- cupation of many students who ore hungry for sun and fun Bobby Rogers got there with o truckful of friends on o day perfect for beachcombing THE PROBLEMS OF GETTING THERE There ore those who see the chollenge of school os inrellecruol: meeting the ocodemic stondords they set for themselves is o very difficult job Then ogoin. there ore those who see their biggest doily problem os getting to school: no matter how they do if, if con be o major task By for, the most common means of transportation is the bus. However, it does not oppeor to be everyone's favorite. Freshmon Toro Coligiuri soid I don't like the woy the older kids push you around when they need o seat. Yet. the bus is o very important port of our lives How would some of us survive frostbite in the winter without having o worm bus to climb onto? We've got to ad- mit that bus drivers come closer to qualifying for sainthood They deal with fights, the throwing of paper or other objects, ond loud voices Yet. they've still got o cheery Good Morning for you — every doy. A few people who live too close to school ore forced to either ride their bikes or walk. These ore the people who ore most miserable on those cold, roiny days when they hove to go through shin-high puddles to get to school. Fortunately for them, though, the roin keeps the ferocious dogs inside where they con'r chose them, And don’t forget those six-foot high snowdrifts they hove to struggle with when the district elects not to close schools Then there ore those lucky students who hove cars. These vehicles ore considered by many to be the classiest woy to get to school This incorrect notion is maintained mostly by those who hove never hod to poy for gos or repoirs. ond hove never hod the singulor experience of having the cor break down on o cold, desolate reach of Sound Avenue. And while these people seem t be very popular during lunchtime, they wonder why everyone disappears when the word gos money posses from their lips Most people find thor their school doy goes obout os well os their journey rhere-rhose who hove o lot of problems hove o rotten doy, those who hove none hove o wonderful doy Then og there ore those who decide nor to chance the odds or oil — stay home Right: Duses provide on important service for those students who don 't hove cars or non-working parents. Left: The Country Fair wos truly o fomily-orienred event. There wos plenty of fun ond fonrosy for children of oil oges. such os cotton condy ond clowns, os well os odulr omusemenrs. TRADITION DELAYED, BUT ALL IS FAIR Nothing ever goes os planned-nor even o well- esroblished event like the Riverheod Country Foir. Roin postponed the foir for o week, which some viewed os o bod omen, bur. despite the cold, this year's fair wos. osolwoys. a success The showmobile wos once again the most populor place to be with Al Shields returning to emcee the show Lindo Morevec disployed courage in singing old show tunes without any accompaniment, while the local heavy merol group Impact catered to those with less traditional toste The RHS Stage Bond and the Riverheod Monday Night Bond both succeeded in keeping their high standards of excellence. Of course, not everyone heord this musicol rolenr. they never mode it that for. Instead, they busied themselves with sampling oil of the food ot the foir: hot dogs, hamburgers, kielboso, roosted ducks, sodo. ond. of course, beer, were oil for the taking. Still other ortroctions draw people to the Country Foir This yeor it seemed you could buy anything ot oil the booths --leather belts, posters, and clothes were o few of the mony items for sole. One of the more interesting booths or the foir was the one set up by the RHS Student Council os a fund raiser for the Volunteer Ambulonce Corps For o small donation to o good couse. you got o chonce to beon o fellow RHS student with o pie. This booth wos o success due to the willing volunteers who didn't mind earing o little humble pie Cindy Lull. Mott Yokoboski, ond Donold Lindor. who seemed to be the most popular forget The Country Foir hos become on annual event rhor the community of Riverheod eagerly owoirs. ond. if future fairs ore as successful os this year s, if will pro- bably continue to be so for mony years to come.
