Left Strong kicking by junior Derrick Robinson was ex- tremely important to the gome especially after the first kickoff by Riverheod resulted in o potentially demoralizing Westhompron touchdown A MOMENT OF GLORY After oil the unexpected obstodes surrounding Homecoming weekend, it oil come down to this-the bottle on the football field between Riverheod ond Westhompron. And after the ream's loss to John Glenn the week before. It wasn't o question of win- ning their Homecoming gome; the victory was necessary for their morale So. some of the more die-hord football fans gathered on this roiny doy to cheer them on As the gome begon. though, some wished they hodn'r. It looked like it was going to be o terrible gome for Riverheod The Hurricanes returned the kickoff to score o touchdown, making the score 0 to 7 This rat- tled our teom so much that Riverheod hod three or four penalties colled ogoinst them in the next few minutes. It did not look like we would hove o victory on homecoming weekend until o ploy come that turned the whole gome around. A Hurricane punt wos blocked by Frank Drown, ond then the crowd went wild os Chris Kruger jumped on the loose boll, scoring o touchdown for the Dlue Waves Neither ream scored in the remainder of the first quarter, so the crowd remained tense os possession of the boll passed bock ond forth between the two teams. In the second quoner. Riverheod rook the lead, mak- ing the score 14-7 The crowd wos esrotic. at least un- til Westhompron threatened to score agoin. For- tunately, time ron out ond Riverheod kept its lead After our ream's performance in the first half, it wos o relief to see them dominate the gome in the second half In the third quorter. the Dlue Waves in- creased their leod to 20-7. Despite another Hurricone touchdown that decreased our leod to six points, the Waves scored ogoin in the lost fifty-two seconds, making the final score 27-14 As the clock ran down, the stands filled with cheers ond the celebration begon After oil rhe trials students foced before the gome this victory was tru- ly sweet As Chris Kruger sold. We oil pulled together, worked hord. ond pulled it off what o gome!”
