Text from Pages 1 - 248 of the 1974 volume:

f Memories grow into a tree of remembrances that whisper the past whenever the wind blows. We began as individuals; now, as we leave, we are one, only to become separate once more. In reaching out we have each touched the soul of another. Together we have faced victory and defeat. Minutes and hours of time, so precious shared through happiness, pain and tears, will never be with us again — time passes on regardless, but memories will never die. Visions of the future stretch before us, dreams of yesterday turn into dust and blow away. The past is but a memory, yet preserved here are moments together. Although we have come to the end of our road, we have not finished our journey. We have only just begun. — Gerry — — Catherine — Yesterday is already a Dream And tomorrow is only a Vision makes every yesterday A dream of Happiness and every tomorrow A vision of hope (Unknown Author) The woods are lovely, dark and deep But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep. (Robert Frost) 5 6 7 V • ... The 1973 Riverhead Varsity Football Season was a very successful one for the Blue Waves. They posted an unblemished record of 8 wins and no losses. Statis- tically they had the most potent offense and toughest defense in the county. The highlight of the season came when they demolished Easthampton 42-10, for the A-I Championship. This year’s team was the first undefeated team since 1957. We are losing 16 seniors, but have many experi- enced underclassmen returning. The Varsity team would like to thank Coach Herzog and Coach Marelli for assisting them to the great team of 1973. They should be rewarded for their drive and determination. Many J.V. players will be moving on to Varsity to replace the many seniors leaving. The team had a lot of fight when they demonstrated their victory over Smithtown West, kicking Smithtown out of first place. Another super victory came when they defeated Wm. Floyd 2-1. They played their utmost in all the games showing very close scores. They were defeated by Bayport, league champs, by 1-0 only in the last 2 minutes of play. Although the seniors felt they could of had many more victories they would like to take this time to express their gratitude to Coach Husing and Coach Butler for making them the players they have become. This basketball season of 1973-74, seemed to reflect the football season all over again. From the very start of the season the fans could notice the drive both J.V. and Varsity acquired. Looking back at the scores one can only see how determined the team was to win the championship. The boys had a feeling of togetherness on the court this year which they feel led them to their success. We are very proud of both the Varsity and Junior Varsity in continuing the drive for success this season. They proved that R.H.S. does have the potential for another successful year in the future. There is a loss of 8 seniors from the Varsity team but they are leaving behind good prospects from J.V. and the Varsity team itself. We hope this year has been an inspiration for the following years. 137 Hallelujah! If we had the chance to do it all again. Tell me would we? Could we? Memories may be beautiful, and yet What’s too painful to remember We simply choose to forget. So it’s the laughter We will remember. Whenever we remember The way we were Ther w'ay we were. Lyrics Alan and Marilyn Bergman 171 Clubs and Activities Student Government 73-74 Advisor.
