In 1968, a new teacher joined the Riverhead High School faculty. Born in North Wilbraham, Massachusetts, he attended grammar school there and was first clarinet in the orchestra besides doing extensive painting and printing. His interest in music and art followed him into the Minnechaug Regional High School in North Wilbraham where he was also inter- ested in gymnastics. He entered the American University in Washington, D.C. in 1964 as an art major. It wasn’t until his sophomore year there that his interest in Marine Biology began. He transferred to Cornell University where, in his junior year, Marine Biology became his main interest. He has participated in programs at Star Island and the Isle of Shoals, both in New Hamp- shire, and is now teaching Marine Biology in R.H.S. He is presently working on his Master’s Degree at the University of New Hamp- shire. Since coming to Riverhead, he has been the advisor to the class of 1971 for two years, a member of the committee for the YMCA, and the advisor to the Science Club. It is with gratitude that we dedicate our yearbook to him — Mr. C. James Smith.
