This year the class of '69 chose a man with a background which varies from traveler and businessman to teacher. After graduating from East Hampton High School, he served as a member of the United States Army from 1946-48. From there he enrolled at Pace College from which he received his B.A. degree in 1952. He then attended such schools as St. John's University, Hunter College, St. Paul’s College, Syracuse University and C.W. Post College. He entered the business world in 1955 where he worked for the Great Lakes Carbon Corporation in New York City. Here he remained until 1958. His interest then turned to teaching. He began by joining the staff of Anderson School in Straatsburg where he taught business for six months. In September 1959 he returned to Long Island to begin teaching at Shelter Island where he remained until June 1961. He first entered Riverhead High School in 1961 but only remained until June 1962. Ontario, Canada then attracted his attention and he left to teach there until 1963. In September of that year he returned to continue teaching at Riverhead High School. He has devoted a considerable amount of time and effort to teaching, advising and giving a helping hand to the Seniors as well as his students. Therefore, we would like to show our gratitude for his kindness and hard work by dedicating this, our yearbook, to Mr. Russell V. Smith. 7
