F ore word For two centuries, I have observed the people and the events of Riverhead. I was one of the oak landmarks George III designated as the boundaries of his land grants. Near me, the first settlers estab- lished Riverhead. The original owners donated these lands for the use of the Riverhead Fair. The most interesting years began in 1937 with the construction of Riverhead High School. 1 watched the capable and friendly faculty guide their pupils through school and prepare them for the future. Passing me on the way to their doors, the seniors have discussed vocations and colleges. The underclass- men have worked faithfully as an inte- gral part of the school. The varied activities have developed the students’ interests, while the athletic program has encouraged good sportsmanship and school spirit. The Riverhead students, guided by all of these, have grown in knowledge, understanding and citizenship. On these pages, I will try to show you how they have done this.
